Used to do a lot of sailboat racing in the '60s, '70s & '80s. That is me to leeward driving a C&C35 about 20 years ago, my then girlfriend and now wife is just visible in front of the companionway adjusting the main traveler.
I think all that heeling over got me into the Trim Tab business
I still get out sailing once and a while when I get the chance.
I’ve been sailing all my life, but recently had to decide between a sailboat and a powerboat. The wife wouldn’t let me have both so I went with a powerboat since I’m addicted to offshore fishing. I still make every attempt to bum a ride from friend with sailboats.
But seriously now, folks... I'm full of hot air, so you can find me strictly on sailboats. Notwithstanding, I have found some excellent advice & info here.
Went to canoe and sailing camp for 4 years growing up, spent a lot of time on my dad's sailboat, then got into windsurfing for a while. I always loved fishing off of powerboats though.
Nothing like the sensation of sailing, OR getting that bite.
16 foot prindle, windsurfer, and available for my bro in laws c&c anytime. Love them both, but choose to fish and surf over all other water activities.
Had a Ghost 13, Hobie Cat 16 and finally a Columbia 26. I loved the Columbia. It was a tank and didn't have any problems in heavy weather. Unfortunately with the start of my family, I had to give it up. Still miss it!
Have owned a mix of powerboats and sailboats, on and off, for about 45 years.* Haven't owned a sailboat since 1986, but have the use of a couple owned by friends (Hunter 380 and Catalina 30).
Sailed my own 23ft and 28ft boats on the Chesapeake in the 1980's, and even sailed the 28-footer from Norfolk, VA*to Newport, RI in May 1985 (and return with the family in July).* Lots of time at sea in a small sailboat.* My Master's license includes sailing vessels to 1600-tons, and I have worked as a relief Captain on a 135-ft, three-masted, topsail schooner.* Also qualified as a U.S. Navy Offshore Sailing Instructor.* Took Navy sail-training yachts and midshipmen to sea during summer periods in the late 80's-early 90's, and conducted mid-winter sail training in Key West several times - always in January...*
Lots of interesting posts on THT, showing the usual lack of understanding, and perhaps animosity, between "rag-baggers" and "stink-potters".* :-)
i sailed from cape cod to florida in 1975 in a thirty foot sloop (alberg)...i worked in fla for a few weeks and hoped on another 31 footer and sailed around the caribbean for about 4 months......lots of fun, glad i did it, would never do it again i don't think...nearly bought the farm a couple of times........i sail occasionally on a 31 footer belonging to a friend of my wife.....decided against buying a sailboat because of fishing mostly, but i also didn't want the expenses of hauling a sailboat in and out...i'd rather spend it on gas.....still do like to sail though, it is just a different mind set

Raced an S2 7.9 for a number of years in the local area. Have also had Hobie Cats and a Chrysler Buccaneer 18. The 7.9 was a lot of fun, but too much trouble to tow around. Fishing is more fun!

Worked in the oil patch, then found my way to Ireland on a packet boat. Sailed the North Sea in a Westerly for a few years. Then took a 38ft steel (no name hull) to the Azores and found my way into the Caribbean on a 41 O/I. Delivered
a number of Morgans there, before moving on to ocean-going tugs. Spent another ten years transiting the CZ before returning to the West Coast and finding an old craftsman, will to show me how to build my own wooden boat. I still have a 1963, 55ft Kettenburg that I sail on occasion. In the meantime, I took over the building of my 44 Garden, put in an 5.9L diesel and I'm working on another cedar strip sailboat hull.

I've been a sailor since age 9, and later, raced competitively from 1975 to 1999 or thereabouts in everything from 15-36' catamarans, to windsurfers, to all types of monohulls, (Tartans, Morgans, Express 27, Cambria 44 and a few not worth mentioning). I bought my first powerboat in 2000. I really miss the sailing, but my back is feeling much better now. I still try to get out on one of my windsurfers from time to time.
All of my recent boating experience has been on my dad's 42' Carter. It's a great boat, and I've enjoyed my time on it. My dad runs it as a charter, and on occassion I will act as first mate. Best part of it is that we get to spend time together. Been to the Bahamas on it and had a grand old time. My only complaint is how long it takes to get there...about 24 hours from Fort Pierce to Bimini...not that it isn't relaxing and isn't fun, just that on a tight schedule, it does limit the amount of time you actually have in the islands...Which is why I would prefer a power boat at this time in my life...but I can certainly understand the appeal of a sailboat.

Still lookin' for a good boat...any suggestions?
I raced 25' performance sloops in the midwest for 15 years. Sailed up both Florida coasts on a Morgan 46 then all the way up to the Chesapeake. This Morgan was a originally a bareboat charter in the Caribbean its name was Sloopy. Does that ring any bells?
