Sailed both oceans and the gulf for over 50 years. However, I've gotten impatient in my old age and when I want to get there, I want to get there!

All good sailboat racers are power boaters also. I have been out in some nasty stuff for sailboat races that would leave most boaters at the dock. Every time there was power boats around who were running the race.

In fact US Sailing now offers a power boat training course as part of its instructor training. It was very controversial when they started. "Why would sailors NEED power boat training?"

I've owned 4 sailboats and really don't remember how many powerboats in the last 25 or so years. I just like being out on the water. While my current boat is a powerboat, I do miss sailing...nothing really compares to it. I'm seriously thinking about going back to sail...especially with the fuel prices like they are

Sailor here - Catalina 25 swing keel

Powerboat: Enroute somewhere to have a good time.
Sailboat: You're there already.
That's an exellent way to look at it Though I'm sure many power boat owners would disagree Also might explain why I want a power boat instead of a sailboat.

Sailor! That was me a few years ago! 18-2 with spinnaker - what a blast! That's my favorite area to sail! (Navarre/Ft. Walton/Destin)

Have owned and raced J-24, Tartan 33, C&C 35 Mk III. Now have Parker 2510 and Catalina 22, sail and fish. No reason you cannot enjoy both. Racing sailboats you certainly see all of what mother nature can throw at you on the water.
