Default Optimax Powertune (De-Carb)

I have 02" twin 200 Opti's with 500 hours and need to do the Powertune. Can you spray Mercury Powertune in the plenum, butterfly intake while motor is running and then in the air compressor intake to fully get thru the motor? I have heard of Dunks Method also, but would like feedback on both. Thanks...

Do you use Merc quickclean regularly? If not you should, with every load of fuel.
If you need to decarb, I would hook up a portable tank and super dose the tank with
quickclean. Then run them merc's like ya stole'em. A 6gal tank thru each motor and
some time at WFO will clean the carbon out. Why do you feel that you have to decarb?

Yes, I bought the boat and motors new in 04. Added Quikleen every 40-50 hrs for the first year, and then started to put it in every tank. I also run Opti/DFI oil. Idles rough, seems like it needs to be cleaned out.

Glen, did you hook the small gas tank line to the VST or to the fuel pump?

With ethanol fuel, you really shoudnt need to decarb your Opti. Ethanol does a good job of decarbing by itself. You probably pulled your plugs and they look a little nasty. Opti plugs always do but the cylinder is probably pretty clean. If you want to anyway and you have a Racor type filter, just remove the filter and fill it about 2/3 with Seafoam reinstall and go boating.

On these Opti's, I do not have separate racor type water/fuel separators. Just the screw on filter on the motors.

What I've learned from my twin opti's, index plugs to the center of the cylinder,
plugs stay cleaner. Make sure the motor temps are ~125degs when warmed up,
I get sand in my stats all the time and temps won't go over 96degs, causes motors
to run a little rough at idle. Clean fuel, especially with E10, get a set of properly sized racors. Lots of idling on the drift will foul the plugs, a little WFO on the way back to the dock cleans them up.
Have you lost rpm at wide open? Changed the air compressor's air filter?

Here is the Dunks method. Seems to be somewhat effective and not too hard to accomplish...scroll down to post 6.

Ran Dunks Decarb procedure this weekend. - The BARN

Yes, I have lost some rpm on the top end. I will check the air compressor filters. Thanks..........
