Default Battery Chargers.

I just installed a Pro Tournament 100 battery charger on the two batteries on my boat. I have heard that leaving a charger on all the time kills batteries. This charger claims it will not over charge the batteries ..... Any opinions here on this?.....Artie

If it's a "floating" charger it has a sensor to shut it off.

If it is one of the new 3 stage chargers - the third stage is a maintienace stage that will keep your batts fresh and charged - check the water levels every 30 days and leave it connected all the time. Keep your batt switches off -assuming your bilge pump will work when the switch is off.

However, if it is just a std "trickle" charger that is always putting out 2 amps or so...it will fry the batt long term...

It is a three stage charger. I do leave the Battery switch to off. I added shore power to my Robalo R235 with a 6 circuit breaker panel and a few outles and wired the battery charger direct to a breaker..Thanks for your input..Artie

The charger's factory instructions should fully explain the functionality of the unit.

Nimrod they do and I obviously read them. I have still been told by people that its not a good idea to leave it on all the time. That is why I posted this questions....But thanks for the advice of reading the directions......Artie
