That was basically my point. I guess Bamaboy said it better
If the boat was in PRISTINE condition (always garaged and looking nearly new) then
maybe I'd pay $500 knowing it needs and engine and trailer.
If it's anything less than pristine, I agree, you can do your buddy a favor by offering to take it off his hands for free. You're not going to get this thing in reliable running condition for less than what it would cost to buy one that's already in good running condition.
