Default Hynautic power steering problem

My reservior slowly loses air pressure. I got out the soap bottle and found a hairline crack in the upper sight glass. Is there a way to seal or fix this? or does the whole thing have to be taken apart. It looks like the sight glasses are replaceable ,but I am not sure how its done.
Thanks

The reservalve sightglass is replaceable, but you'll want it drained and preferably out of the boat. You'll have to fish the sightglass out and back in with a piece of wire. It's a real pain unless you can lay the unit on it's side and above your head while fishing the new parts in, even then it is challenging and takes patience. There are 3 small screws holding it in from what I remember, and a gasket between the plastic sightglass and the aluminum housing. I don't know if the parts are still available. Most Hynautics I have worked on will still work when depressurized but it will be much harder to steer. You might look on eBay for an entire reservalve. New ones go for a few hundred but I have seen used very cheap.

Edit - I just noticed you stated POWER steering. My reply is for standard Hynautic hydraulic steering, no power other than your hand turning the wheel.

Thanks for the info -all I have to do is find some replacement sightglass. It sounds a whole lot easier to relace the reservior,if I can find one of those .The steering does work with no pressure in the reservior.
It is not power steering unless you can call it Armstrong

Try emailing Marc at Teleflex (madams@teleflex.bc.ca). He has been pretty helpful with my questions about parts for my Hynautic system and he will be able to tell you if they still have sight glasses.

As another thought, if your system is like mine you never fill it past the 2nd (or is it 3rd) sight glass, so why not just fill that hole with something else if yours is similar.

Hey there, can you let me know how many sight windows are in your reservoir, or, if you can, locate the part number? We do offer some parts, and the ones that we don't I might have laying around...

This job is easy, but not a lot of fun, as stated by other posts, you have to fish out the old one, then, you have to fish in the new gasket and sight glass... it can be done, just takes more time than what you would think

thanks and let me know
Marc
