Default " Loose Yamaha dealer" - translate please

I went to a boat dealer today and talked to them about a boat that normally comes with a merc. 90 or 115.
This dealer also sells and services two other brand boats that come from the factory with a Yamaha.
I asked - "can I get it with a Yamaha", and whats the price? .
He said - no, cause we are not a "loose Yamaha dealer",, plus he said you would need all new controls.

If they sell Yamaha new with boats, and of course service the engines that they have just sold (and I assume other yamaha walk in people with engines) why cant they sell a motor.

Or is it just two much trouble to take the merc off then they are stuck with a spare engine?

Thanks

It means that they cant sell just the outboard. They are only authorized to sell packaged boats that come with a yamaha from the factory.

You cant just walk into that dealership and buy a 115hp buy itself. You can only buy a boat with the engine already bolted on.

The boat that you are looking at most likely does not offer Yamaha, thus you would have to buy the boat unrigged and get a "loose" outboard and have it rigged.

Just my cents.

Default Loose motors...

While they may sell products that are packaged with Yamaha, they must not be a loose motor dealer for them. They probably have an agreement/contract with another brand to only sell their product/brand unpackaged. Not unusual and common practice.

What they ^^^ said, very common.

They are not Yamaha Dealers, but usually are Yamaha Service Centers.

Can you just buy the boat and then pick up a new Yamaha from a loose dealer like Ed's? I know pain in the butt, if you are stuck on boat X with motor Y you may have to do that?
