Default Best ethanol fuel additive

What is the best additive to prevent ethanol fuel problems. Should fuel be drained entirely from the tank when laying up an outboard for the winter?

This has been discussed here many times. Do a search. You can read for hours. I use Startron and store the boat with as little fuel as possible, but I don't and wouldn't reccomend draining the tank.

Empty it. Less $$$ you have to throw away if the engine won't run in the spring. Or blow your engine trying to use it up. ( You probably bought 87 gas to start with.) If you already have moisture problems with the tank definitely drain it and dry it out real good. If you leave any water in the tank the ethanol seems to re-create more water. It is already (almost) saturated at all times.

I use Star-Tron, and I empty the tank in the winter. So far, so good, and I've got several old boats that I do this to every winter.

I'm the opposite of the others I fill my tank and put in both Seafoam and Stabil. I don't use ethanol fuel so that isn't a problem for me. But if I did I would still use the same as mentioned but use the Stabil green for Ethanol fuel.

This is what I have done in the past and have had no problems at all. But again like I said no ethanol fuel in my boat.

I stopped adding additives for fuel I plan on burning. because the fuel I get already has it in it, ValveTec Marine fuel.

An empty tank will do nothing but gather water.
I've stored my boat 3/4 full with the right amount of StaBil with no ill effect for the past three seasons.

I've had great luck with K100. Even improved mileage/performance some.

I now use the Star Tron product for the past 3 years. No problems at all with the gas. I even use this product for the gas can for the lawn mower, snow blower, leaf blower and no problems when not used. They start right up.

if you use it, this is the best answer here - the stuff is trash for boats - use it up...don't store it...no additive works if e-10 wants to go bad...

Agree. I turned my pops onto this stuff (he lives in NY). Revived a weed-whacker from winter storage, uses it in all of his small engines.
I use it every other tank in my car... It is underpriced for the value you're getting. (IMO)

I have used my boat 4 times in pass 2 years. I had a baby in 08 and now in 10 so thats why. I have only gassed up 3 times. Till today I have not had any fuel problems, no water in my racor filter or in the float cup in the engine. I did have a engine that spun a rod bearing but i dont think it was fuel related, more like a tired engine. So knock on wood I have not had a e-10 problems to date. I have read of water, fuel lines going bad, and black stuff coming from the fuel line causing engines to blow up or mess them up bad. I dont know if I am missing something but like I said no water, fuel lines are good (from tank to racor is original 1991) engine starts right up. I have been wanting to try some kind of aditive but why mess with something that has nothing wrong.

I've been using StarTron for a good number of reasons;

1. It works as a stabilizer
2. It works as anti-carbon
3. I found a 2 for 1 deal a few months back dropping the cost down A LOT
4. Many have been using it on here for a lot longer than I have with good results

You are lucky so far as I see many boaters with the water problems every year not using a product for the e-10 gas. Take a look at how Star Tron works and protects the gas with the literature that comes attached to every bottle.

Thats what I was thinking. But like I said I have not seen any water in the racors, engine float bowl, and the vst tank which I drain over the weekend just to check. Is the phase seperation noticable, am I missing something here. Come to think of it I unhook my gas line and use the same fuel for my lawnmower and weed eater.
