Default Grounding Plate Question?

I recently purched a used micrologic loran and the installation book says I need a grounding plate. On my old Aplelco loran I didn't use a grounding plate and it worked fine in the Jax area. The grounding plate needs to be mounted on the bottom of the hull and requires me to drill holes in the bottom of the boat. I really don't like drilling holes in the bottom of my boat if I don't have to. Can any one tell me if they use a grounding plate for their loran and what its funtion is? Thanks Reelsaint

Default RE: Grounding Plate Question?

All the lorans manuals say that. Don't worry about it unless you have problems with reception - ie. if the transmitting stations will not lock on.

Also, you should post questions like this on the Electronics BB.
