Mine is one of the newer versions, has a harness back to the engines for data and to the ignition harness for instrument power.

I tried to post a link to the basic wiring diagram, but for some reason it wont work. Here is how to find it.

Go to http://www.whalerparts.com/

Choose the 2004 Nantucket, scroll down through the drawings till you find the Smartcraft installation.
might help some.....

Smart craft guages use a special wiring cable that works like a computer network cable. All the guages connect to the same cable. All the different data from the engine is transmitted down the same cable. The "smart" guages read their own data and display it. The system was derived from the europeen "canbus" technology and was designed for use in new automobiles. See http://www.mjschofield.com/ for more info.

I had lots of questions about a month ago when I called Merc. The first person I talked to said the same thing as far as going to your dealer. I called back in and got a different person that was very helpful. I don't have his name with me but I will look out in the boat and see if I can find his name. He was very helpful as far as telling me what types of things can be done with different packages and how it all hooks together. Don’t give up on then. I love my smartcraft!
