RE: 252 Wellcraft fisherman
I'm the friend with the 252. here's the deal, I looked at several boat lines before I bought this. The edgewater is a great boat. I'd love to have one. I liked the Century, and Boston Whaler. The Proline and Seaswirl seemed more cheaply outfitted. I looked at a Prosport Cat, and went for a ride in a 22" Cat. The cat had great handling charicteristics, but the fit and finish seemd to be less than acceptable. I guess cats are more expensive to build in general. I originally wanted to get a 30' boat, but money told me different. I settled on the Wellcraft, because it seemed well put together, and the dealer was responive and easy to deal with. (Remember, the dealer is an important part of your purchase decision.)
I have 67 hours on the 252, and I really like it. I think the streering is a bit haevier than it should be, and they should have put dual hydraulic cylinders on the twin Yamaha 150's. It's not so bad you can't live without it though.
I had an oil leak problem with one of the Yamaha's which required a gasket replacement. At the moment, I am trying to sort out an intermittent elctrical problem. Besides that, it's been great. I'm in the boat for about $70,000.
I added a Garmin 2006, four speakers, a 200watt amp, and an Apple Ipod. I also added a 96 QT Igloo cooler with a cushion and mounted it ahead of the CC. I had custom cushions maded for the bow area to increase seating and provide a sunning area. The same guy made custom covers which matched the T-Top for the CC, the leaning post, the engines, and the rear seat and transom area. If you get the boat, and are intested, contact me, He has the patterns all made and ready to go.
Good luck with your decision.
