Dealer/Marina Pleasant Experience I bought a used boat several months ago from a long-standing boat dealer on LI. (Several of you helped with that purchase by providing advice- thanks again). Since I took delivery there has been a nagging problem with the trim/tilt. I have been using the boat extensively, the only issue being that I could never raise one of the engines up to tilt out of the water (I am in a marina ~ 100 miles from the dealer). The dealer picked up the boat a week ago and trailered it back to his shop and performed a compete replacement of the trim/tilt unit. Now why am I telling you all this?
1) The dealer did not charge for the trailering, the parts nor the labor.
2) The boat was as clean when I picked it up as when it went, NY on the trailer.
3) I asked if there was any other work that could be/ needed to be done since the boat was out of the water. I was thinking I would have the lower unit fluid changed, maybe new impellers- work that I would pay for just to be safe- The dealer said nothing else needed to be done, save my money and take care of it next year.
4) The mechanic who performed the work got on the boat several times while I was there waiting for it to be put in the water and each time HE TOOK HIS SHOES OFF before he set foot in the boat.
Its great when you can work with a business that stands behind its word and its product (remember this was a used boat) and values you as a customer. From my own experiences and from alot of what I read on this forum that does not always hold true in the marine industry.
The dealer was Spellman's Marine in Hampton Bays, NY.
