As a matter of interest, were you aware of any of the negative comments about that company before you started your relationship with them? Personally speaking, if I was about to drop that much money on something as delicate as a rebuild - especially if I'd found the place via the internet and had to ship the motor to them - I'd have done a quick search to see if they had a reputation. Just wondering if you saw those comments and decided to give it a shot anyway.

Again, who knows, maybe things will work out right for you, but after all the things I've read about rebuilds, I'd stick with something local regardless of the bucks saved.

No mention of an engine survey when he purchased. Now wants to sue the seller as well as the broker (how is the broker going to have any idea a gasket is going to fail after purchase?). Then sends engine out to be "rebuilt", spends almost 6 grand and has no idea what work was actually done?

Come on.

Earlier this spring I bought a Johnson 90 hp rebuilt outboard from 1 outboard in West Sunbury Pa.

I drove 250 mile to their shop and they installed the new rebuilt motor with great care as I watched, Chad the service manager is a great talented motor mechanic.

Over the next few weeks I used double oil as instructed by Chad and everything was going great when a miss in the motor developed, I installed new plugs as suggested due to using double oil, the miss was still there.

I called 1outboard and made an appointment to see if they could find the miss in the motor.

I arrived at there shop at 8:30 am and right away with no waiting they started working on my outboard.

Once the problem was found, they quickly had the new part over nighted to there shop and the next day installed the new part and I tested the motor on a local lake and the motor performed like a dream .

Customer service is top notch, communication with them was easy, and they were doing all they could to get me back on the water fishing.

I met the owner of 1outboard and if I ever need another outboard motor rebuilt, this company has my business.

Would I recommend my friends to buy from 1outboard, yes.

Its hard to find service like this and a bunch of dediacted folks that have your best interest in mind and that is to get you out on the water as quickly as they can, they work hard and produce a good product.

I rate this business at 5 stars.

A1 - Cool on the good service on the 90 Johnson. What is going on with the F225 that the thread is about?

If any of you have ever run a business and dealt with the public you know you can never make everyone happy no matter how hard you try. Back off and give them a chance to fix the motor.

After giving up on A1 ever doing my motor correctly I had it done locally and have had zero issues with it.
When my motor was torn down after A1 had it we found a bare minimum of new parts and it was not bored. They honed it with a ball hone slapped 6 Wiseco pistons in it and slapped it back together. Other than a a couple bearings and a gasket set everything was reused.

Two points from me.....

1. 2005 F225 internal corrosion a possibility.
2. FOUR hours to rehang an outboard?

I would never, ever, ever bring up internal corrossion on an F225 thread unless the op brings it up.....it's apparently a very touchy subject......just sayin.

Let's see how the company handles this. So far we have a single reply from them about a customer that was happy... but nothing specific to this actual matter.

Now that is some funny stuff, but you are the one that usually does bring it up. Sort of like discussing fuel, rigging issues and copius injectors being replaced.

Hope that makes you feel better... Cheers

You need to do some history search posted here from past customers/issues.

WOW, A1 outboard actually has one satisfied customer. Even though that customer had to drive 500 miles roundtrip to get a problem fixed within the first few weeks.

The fact that A1 outboard couldn't or wouldn't even respond about the OP's problems and had to post some B.S. customer letter of satisfaction speaks volumes about the company.

Yeah I am glad I don't have a marine business and if I did I sure wouldn't sponser the board, being threatened with slander on open forum before I even got a chance to look at what went wrong with the motor!

And if we had a nickel for every builders warranty problem that really stemmed from a novice boater who bent a prop dredging their own channel in low tide, sucking up sand and smoking the impellor and then digging through to deeper water, burying the throttle and then overheating and blowing up the engine..........all at the rebuilder/mechanics fault of course.............$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

It seems to me that most of the engine horror stories on this forum involve Yamaha.

You guys sacrifice your American dollars like samurai.......
