Default Cross your fingers for us SW Florida boater!

Looks like we're gonna get hammered! Cat*I, maybe Cat II, hitting SW Florida right at high tide.

Trailering out is not an option for me. Boat is on a lift in the backyard. We're on a sheltered canal off a natural creek 2 1/2 mile off Charlotte Harbor.

We're all brainstorming scenerios, as we haven't had a major storm in over 40 years!* I think this is my best bet:

1. High up on the lift.* "High" is bunks about 12' above ML water. Boat would need another 18" for float off.

2. Lower part of each corner of lift* tied off to it's four pilings to stop any "swinging".

3. Boat tied off to lift and also to pilings with springers all around.

4. Inside of pilings "padded" with big fender bumbers.

5. I'll remove the small drain plug in the transom

The Pursuit* has a self bailing cockpit. T Top canvas has been removed. Console cover lashed down.

Thinking about setting battery switches to all to allow both batteries to handle the two bilge pumps if that much water could get into the bilge, i.e. blocked up scuppers scenerio. What ya think?

Any other ideas out there?

i don't think it will happen but if it floats off the lift (if very high surge) make sure it is not tied down with no room to rise with the surge. don't want to come out and see that the boat sunk because the rope attaching it to the sling worked and held it below the surface of the surge.

Have a word with the "Big Guy" and use up one or two of those promises you've made when you've been in trouble before, and he got you out. We'll all keep our fingers crossed for you, you've got a double whammy headed your way..........

Do a search for the threads from the Chesapeake guys from last year. There were several
techniques that worked well for their boats on lifts. I think the bottom line is get it high and
tie it tight ,as in spring lines . After you secure it. Pictures, pictures, pictures. Then the insurance people can't claim negligence on you're part if there's damage.

Good luck,

A little praying to the pagan boat gods won't hurt.....

During Isabelle last year. I didnt want to take any chances so I had my boat hauled and blocked on higher ground. (my marina called me and said get her out of here because his insurance company said so..)

Many insurance companies were advising many people in this area to do the same. Failure to do so was not doing due diligence to prevent damage thus could result in rejection of claims.....
