Default Yamaha F225 "Regular" Maintenance Question...

I have a 280 Scout Abaco w/ twin 225 Yamaha 4-Strokes.... I primarily use the boat for tournament salmon fishing on the Great Lakes in which the motors are at two positions...WOT or trolling. I just had a couple questions for you guys w/ the Yamaha F225's about the regular scheduled maintenance:

1) are you guys changing the gear oil every 100 hours (as the manual states) or are you waiting to do it every 6-months or at the end of the season in the north?
2) how often are you guys changing the oil filter? The manual (I believe) states every 200 hours for the filter and 100 hours for the engine oil.

The reasons for these questions is that up here in Michigan my fishing season will be over in the beginning of September. Right now I'm at 110 hours for which I changed the gear oil, engine oil, and filter after the 10-hour break-in period. Most of the hours on the motors are trolling and I'm using Amsoil synthetics in both the lower unit and engine.

My thoughts on maintenance are:
Engine Oil every 100 hours
Oil Filter & Lower Unit Oil once a year

Any thoughts?

I change the engine oil, oil filter, cartridge fuel filter inside the cowl, and the lower unit oil every 6 months. This is about 100 hrs give or take. I run mobile 1 oil in the engine and Yamalube oil in the lower unit.

I suggest that the oil filter be changed at each oil change. It is cheap insurance. Oil filters have a certain operational life and changing at every other oil change is acceptable, but again cheap insurance.

i have the same power on a 282 GW. oil/filter and lower unit every 100 hours or 6 mo whatever comes first. fuel filter, thermostat & water pump every 3 years. up north, lucky to get 100 hours per year unless you don't work for a living.

I'm anal, but in that situation I would do it mid season (70 or so hours) and end of season (I am guessing 140 or so hours?)

That way you get any contaminants out before winter storage and aren't dumping good oil twice at the end of the season.

This year...I would probably go ahead and replace the engine and gear oil now then replace it all (including filter) in sept...but again...I am anal.

Thanks for your replies...after reading your input I realized that a mid-season "complete" program and year-end program would suit be best (even if I don't reach hour intervals). Thanks again....

I have all the recommended maintenance (oil, filters, etc..) performed every 100 hours or once a year, depending on what comes first. I am able to run my engines year round, so I normally hit the 100 hours mark every year. So far I have not had any problems with the engines with 200 hours on each engine.
