I photocopied the article so I have to go back to the shop to look at more specs. Nontheless, I think that the most impressive issue here is that the engines are very close in performance and economy even though they state a 25 HP difference. Also, the whole 4-stroke=low torque and no "gusto" debate is over.
Amen ...... no wlet's c what the rest of the industry does ....... that's the silver lining in all this Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Johnson/Evenrude will develop something to match it or out perform it. I read today where Yamaha is looking at a Turbo Charge option. BZ to Mercury ....... they just raised the bar ...... Cheers ......
swagg,
I did a search for HPDI and VERADO in the titles and no post showed up. I thought I was posting new information.
When you state that there is another thread on the exact subject, please include the link so that I and anyone else who that thinks this information is new can read as well.
We already covered this. It is from Mercury corporate publication and the HPDI were over propped by at least 3 inches.
It would be nice if Bomb, Suzuki, Yamaha and Merc would step up to the plate and conduct a test between the 250 Rude, 250 Suzuki, 250 HPDI and the 250 Verado on identical hulls and each set up by the respective company's experts so we can see once and for all how they stacked up (better yet they can switch the motors after on round and rerun the test to account for any hull variations). If I was confident in my product I would jump at the opertunity. But since both companies are afraid of providing the public with the truth, will will forever be locked in the epic struggle within the battlefield which is The Hull Truth boating forum.
And which hull will be in the water and which one having a motor overhauled or repowered every few years...
Lets see the reliability data before we wet ourselves. Merc isn't exactly know for fully qualifying their motors before offering them. Good luck with the Verado, and get the extended warrenty I believe you will need it.....
You guys can all bash the new Verado's all you want. I think mercury is on the verge of redeeming themselves with this motor. It is quiet and powerful and the 4 strokes are just awesome, reliable engines. Like it or not, Verado's rule for the moment.
Did the Verado use the required premium fuel at around 20 cents per gallon more than the 87 octane that the Yamaha HPDI can use? Which engine would be more economical to operate?
The 275 can burn 87 octane without any damage the ECM Module controls that. U just won't get the full 275 HP. If u can afford them gas is not an issue .......
I stand corrected it is 5 pages back. Not to criticize, but just want to make you aware of the 30-40 threads already on this exact subject. There they have alreay analyzed the pros and cons of the verado's. People have prematurely bashed or praised the new product line, I think time will only tell. I would love to see the mercurys succeed personally. I own yamahas, which have been good to me, but it wouldn't hurt to create some more competitive R&D among all the different brands. This is only good for the consumer.
