Default Parker Console Door

First I need to thank all of you for the help getting my 0x66s running like champs. I was able to diagnose and fix the oiler problems based on information provided to me on this board.

Now I have another one for you guys. My Parker has a hatch on the front of the center console that swings up and down. The action is supposed to be controlled by two shocks that mount on little steel balls, somewhat like a hip joint, if that makes sense. The problem is the shocks won't stay mounted, they pop off no matter what the situation. I have replaced both shocks with new ones, but it has not helped.

Personal experience indicates that the door is very heavy and will hurt your head and back when it falls on you. Any ideas, help and or input is appreciated.

What kind of hinge is on the door and what are the dimensions?
There are hinges available that you can set the tension. This may help support the door and help the supports work better. Is there a possibility to mount the door upside down so it opens down?
This will keep it from hitting you.......

Sounds like the pivot balls that the shock mounts to are worn. I'd be inclined think this is a standard item that could be bought from Napa. Additionally, make sure you're getting the right shocks. There may be some size differences on the mounts. You may have small mounts and are buying bigger shocks.

Spring hatch holders work extremely well and come in different sizes for different loads.* Check there out:

To add to what radioshop wrote.. Sometimes there is a metal clip that slides down the gas shock and wraps itself around the ball to prevent the shock from coming detached from the ball.
