Default 1995 Evinrude 200 - Grady White ;? ;?

HI Everyone,

I am looking to buy a 1995 Grady White Chase 26 center console with Twin 200 Evinrude Ocean Pro and I have 2 questions.

1) How is the reliability of the 1995 V6 Evinrude Ocean Pros? I have heard that Evinrudes were terrible but are better now. Is 1995 a bad year or not?

2) With regard to the Grady White, I want a boat that will be a good coastal fishing boat, but also a boat that can handle the run from Florida coast to the Bahamas. Do you know how the hull design of these 1995 Chase boats is with 3-5 ft seas. It looks like the Grady White is a much wider and flatter boat than a comparable Contender for example. Will this boat beat the living dayslights out of me in rough seas?

The only thing terrible about those 'Rudes is how much fuel and oil they use.

You should be alright. Have a mechanic look at the motors and then have the boat surveyed.

Cheers,

David

The GW hull will ride great in rough seas...

Those Evinrudes will be thirsty.*

Definitely get the survey.* Also, email Grady White at custserv@gradywhite.com and give them the HIN. (Hull ID #).* They can give you some of the history of the boat..such as factory installed options and power, who the original selling dealer was, etc...* And, if you buy it, they will update you in their records, put you on the mailing list, etc...*

BBB, I have a 94 GW Sailfish with 200's. They do love gas. Have the motor's checked thoroughly. Inspect the block for cracks. When I bought mine, motors had 500 hours. After I put 800 on them, (1300hrs total) I lost the starboard. 220 hours later the port thew a rod. I'm now in the process of buying 4 strokes.
The problem that you heard of was the early Ficht motors. They bankrupted OMC.-Tim
