Default Alpha One Merc Stern Drive Rebuild

Hello All,

Recently, I have discovered that my Merc Alpha lower drive was cracked near the drain plug on my 1991 Sea Sprite (1991 4.3L GM V6 226). Cracked so bad that it will no longer hold fluid. Looks like my numb nuts friends that stored the boat hit it pretty good to the point there is a enormous crack. I was able to obtain a new lower drive housing. My question is how much is it going to cost me to have the parts transfered into the new housing??
We have removed the lower unit and are getting ready to bring it somewhere to get fixed and I don't want to get ripped off.
Also is their any trick to re-installing it once we get it back? I think that there might need some kind of o-ring to seal that oil transfer tube?? Or is it just as easy and slipping it on and bloting it together?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

My guess is by the time you pay to get all the gears switched out you could purchase a new SEI drive. (aftermarket bolt on) You should pick up an alignment tool and check alignment before reinstalling. If you are aligned should go on but make sure the shift shaft on gimbal lines up with shift rod on lower. Iboats forums has lots of good mercursier info.

Is that Gen I or Gen II drive?

Shifter in forward gear for removal and reinstall. Lots of good info here:

What he said. Sell your parts and get a SEI drive with a no fault 3 year warranty. Just bolt it on and go.
