Default How to carry spare prop??

What is everyone using to carry spare prop or props on the boat. Mine is just shifting around under the deck. I have looked at several large boat product websites and cant find anything, what are you all using?

that birdsall thing looks nice, albeit not cheap....you should be able to make a fixed wooden shaft under there that prop will slide on, and drill hole on the shaft for a safety pin of some sort...

I my performance boats I would take old twisted prop shafts, cut them off and weld them to a backing plate I could mount in the engine compartment (I/O's).

Go to your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc and get a galvanzed pipe flange and a short piece if galvanzed pipe to thread into it. The base has four holes. Screw it down and thread the pipe into it. Slip your prop over the pipe and rill hole for the cotter pin that will secure it. You can use a little foam padding to limit the rattle if needed.

I made my own very similar to the Birdsall one. I used a piece of 1/2" starboard big enough to rest the base of the prop on. I then drilled a hole in the center and enlarged it on the bottom side of the plate just deep enough to hammer a SS nut in on one side. I then cut a piece of SS all thread and screwed it into the base. I use a large washer and wing nut to hold the prop on to the base.

One screw eye or pad eye.

One 1/4" threaded rod 12" long

One fender washer

One wing nut

1) Install the screw or pad eye
2) Bend a hook in the threaded rod
3) Slip prop over rod
4) Add washer
5) Tighten wing nut.

$5

Mine came prepackaged with a protective cardboard box around it. It was even labelled so I knew what was in it. This setup worked pretty well for me with no additional cost or labor involved.

I keep 2 pirhana composite prop's, the blades are removable to minimize space and the carbon fiber construction makes it light and safe if left in a holding bin, no damage to glass if it bounces around
And there cheap
