Default Pursuit 3400 Express - 2001

Checking with the forum to see if there is any info out there about this boat i.e. ride, is it wet, etc. Has anyone owned one? Fished on one?

I just put a deposit on one and would like to know what to look for when we sea trial her.

It has Volvo TAMD 63 diesels in it. The Volvo engine surveyor will do oil samples of the mains, gears, and generator. Unless I get more specific he will pretty much just check hoses, belts, etc. Is there anything in particular to this engine I should have him check? I looked on boatdiesel.com and could not find any red flags about this engine other than parts are expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Have had mine now for almost 2 years. Had a problem with the port engine high temp turbo hose but easily fixed. Just did 500 hr service including acid wash of after cooler. That made a huge improvement in performance and now virtually no black soot on transom. Ride is great for the size of boat. Stable and relatively dry.

Really nothing negative to report. Good luck!

Kwik Release,

How do you like the overhead rod storage? I was thinking about having a fiberglass cover made up for it for security reasons.

i have a deposit on one too. been doing a lot of research and it seems to be a very popular boat, have not really found too much negative. generator is shoe-horned in there making access difficult, that's about it.

good luck, let us know how you make out.

Not a big fan of it since security is the problem. Thinking of installing overhead rod storage down inside the cabin instead, but the fiberglass cover is a great idea too.

Chainsaw,

I was looking a couple of Pursuits in MA. There were 2 on the cape listed by Cataumet Boats and one with a tower in Groveland listed by Russo. Are any of these the one for you?

I have my deposit on one in San Diego with a tower that actually came from Harwichport.

The boat you have the deposit on ... I've fished on that boat quite a bit and crewed it to Cabo from San Diego. It's been well taken care of and catches fish.

I've got a '99 with a tower and the same Volvos. I would have a Volvo tech survey those engines. Short money. Make sure you do an oil analysis too. Great engines and easy to service yourself. My racors are on the aft bulkhead which make them a real pain to change. I am thinking about relocating them but there is not a lot of free space down there. I love the ride. Tracks well in a following sea. Pounds a bit in a head sea but what boat does not. The windshield wipers are a great plus. Very comfortable to spend weekends on. I added trolling valves to slow her down for trolling. I usually cruise around 22 knts but the boat easily cruises at 26 knts well below wide open throttle which is about 30 knts. Lots of parts still available from Tiarra in Michigan. Your gonna love her. Best of luck. Give me a call if you have any questions.
