Random Quote: Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Default Anyone know what this sticky window stuff is?

Im on to trying to fix my leaky window I pulled it out and it has a strip going around the window that kinda holds it in,thats ok and in good shape, but the seal strip that goes between the window and frame "as seen in the pic" this stuff is sandwiched between the window and frame on the inside. Thsi stuff is thin, flexible and sticky on both sides. It doesnt appear to be anything special just flat. Anyone know what this stuff is,or where to get it?
Or since this window is fixed and doesnt move, would it just be better to clean the inside frame and just put a bead of marine window sealent around and press it in?

Yes, it is called butyl tape and it comes in different sizes. You should be able to find it at a automotive glass shop or auto parts supplier. It stays tacky to seal out the water.

Just sealing the glass with marine sealant won't hold up over time, you should use an automotive urethane and automotive primer for the glass for a good bond. Just make sure it is not exposed to uv light as that will break down the urethane. What I would do is set the glass with automotive urenthane and then cover with a good marine sealant like 3m 4000uv.

Butyl,Yep that was it! Thanks.
I seen a window shop went in and the guy was nice enough to go back in his tool shop and get me a roll. I got the one window pretty good, what a major PITA! I got it in except the one corner didnt bond real well,I think I pushed it in to far dow the track. That was my third try,so im going to see if it will leak, the track drains on the outside were pretty funky and one was cloged so Im hoping between the clean tracks and the new seal it wont fill up that high to come in. But if it does still leak bad at least I know what I need to fix it Thanks again.
