Default Canvas Cover Suggestions

I am getting a new cover for my totally new Pursuit. The dealer has recommended a local to do it. A friend, who also happens to own a Pursuit suggested a getting a Sunbrella cover. I check the Sunbrella website, pick out a color (Cadet Grey), the boat is oceana blue, and the Oceana Blue of the hull is just too hard to match with any of the Sunbrella Blues. So grye. It's a light color (the boat will be down near New Smyrna, FL). The canvas guys wants to stear me towards a non-Sunbrella product..."Sunbrella is so so heavy". And he wants to sell me on a dark color (black or navy blue). "Grey will show the bird poop etc more). Won't black or blue show it even better??? I think those are the colors he has in stock. And the non-Sunbrella is what he has in stock. Also, won't a light color on the canvas absorb less heat?? This boat will be down in Florida.

Any suggestions or feedback to give me some direction. I'm a newbie so open to any feedback. I trust my friend that suggested the Sunbrella. Thanks for the help.

Use Sunbrella, and a lighter color will be cooler. It's true that certain Sunbrella colors look better longer, typically Pacific Blue and the darker blue. The cover is to protect your boat so a lighter color will be much cooler under the cover.

Also, the warranty on the product he sells is 5 years. The Sunbrella warranty is 10 years.

The weight difference between Sunbrella and another product won't make a difference for a bimini or such, but it will make a difference for a cover that you will be putting on and taking off your boat.

Ask the canvas guy for the name of the other product, then do some research on it. I had something else (don't remember) cor a cover on my Glastron. It worked fine and the canvas guy told me it was lighter than Sunbrella.

Nothing wrong with Sunbrella, it's a great product, it's just a little heavier than some others.

Just a note on the lighter colors.

They tend to show mildew and dirt very easily, especially on the inside.

Is this a storage or mooring cover.....or bimini?..........FYI.......I had a storage cover made for mine 12 years ago....an acrylic knockoff of Sunbrella. I don't know the mfgr but you would be hard pressed to tell that it is not Sunbrella......It has held up extremely well......maybe 3 reapirs. The color is dark navy......it does get warm underneath, but that is not an issue in Maryland......Dec. -April storage. I think in Fla....I'd go with your cadet gray color choice......An ivestment that will pay for itself over time.

My cover is sunbrella and semi custom from Carver Industries. Great work BTW and a great price.

The outside is sunbrella blue and doesn't show anything. It rains and keeps it clean, but it remains blue.

Life depends on how long you use it. 24/7 365/salt air/wind you are going to have to replace it within a few years.

Re. bird poop, of the three color choices you gave us, the gray will definitely show the poop the least.

I have a custom storage cover on a 20 foot by nine foot cat. Sunbrella, and the whole cover, with the nylon lines attached, weighs under ten pounds.
