Default Firearms on Boat # 2

There's an interesting thread on carrying firearms on boats, at boat ramps, etc. Most of the people who posted on the thread say they routinely carry firearms when boating.

For those who do, have you ever actually used those firearms against another person? If so, what happened and how did it turn out?

Guns are kinda like fire extinguishers. It's good to have em handy and know how to use em but you hope you never have to. I know that didn't answer your question.

It's a tool like anything else. I carry tapered wooden plugs on my boat in the event of a thru hull failure. I have never needed them, yet I keep them on every boat I have. Even if I go through my whole life never needing to use them, I will count myself lucky. Much better to have and not need than to need and not have.

A firearm requires a certain amount of skill for its efficient and safe use. I have had training on putting out a fire with an extinguisher, and I have had training on how to use a firearm. I have never needed to use either on a boat.

There were two times on land that a situation was escalating and I thought I might need one. On the first occasion, I was armed but was able to diffuse the situation. On the second occasion, I was unarmed and quite concerned that it might end badly. Even if I was armed, I would have acted the same way, but it's nice to know you have a safety net.

I'd rather not go into too specific detail on a public site.
