Can you determine the motor year model for a Yamaha F150TXR from the serial number?
S/N is 63PX-1063673. Although motor may also have manufacturie date, I dont have this info and want to confirm how the old the motor is.
Yam did away with model years in 2005 and when they did eliminated the fourth letter in the model after the HP rating. So, an F150TXR has to be produced in 2006 or later.
Based on the serial number I am guessing it has a production date of 2008 or later.
Andy from SIM may come along here in a few minutes and tell us exactly what month and year it was made.
Owner is representing the motor is a 2008 model and that is why I am seeking confirmation of year made. Can anyone explain how to determine the manufacture date from the S/N?

Sorry...didn't see it wasn't a 4 digit code. For those motors the last digit is the year......
I don't think SNs correspond to model years (except where the numbers happen to fall that year), my F150 came with a laminated sticker on the engine mount "Manufacturerd 04/06" My SN is 63PX105XXXX, so It's newer than mine, but how much ?
If there isn't as date of manufacture sticker the owner removed it

Yamaha stopped putting the manufacture dates on the motors. I don't remember when they stopped but a 2008 may not have a sticker. This was done for several reasons but one is that many new motors were manufactured a year or two prior to the hull. For example, if you were to buy a 2010 motor today, it probably was made in 2009. If yoo were to buy a 2011 boat now ( if available) the motor will look like it is 2 years old.
Ask the owner if he or she has the original docs that come with a new motor. Regardless, any Grady dealer/service center will be able to tell since they need to know for waranty work. Weather or not they will tell you is another story.
If an 2008 it would still be under the basic 3 year warranty, owner should have warranty papers which will state the date the engine was put in service, my understanding is that the date of manufacture is meaningless now, the warranty, etc run from the date the engine is placed in service, ie my 150s are under warranty from 10/09 until 10/15 so what does it matter when they were manufacturered.
The month and year of manufacture are still on every Yamaha outboard produced. Go to the port side of the motor and look for a decal that will give the month and year it was made. 0309 for example is March 2009.
Or, call Yamaha and give them the serial number and they can tell you the month and year of manufacture.

I stand corrected...
Yamaha does put the manufacture date on the motor. They stopped using year numbers for the models. Here is the story
Outboards do not change from one “Model Year” to the next; therefore a “Model Year” doesn’t communicate anything significant about the physical product.
Yamaha plans to introduce new products and upgrades to models on a continuous bases instead of only at the traditional “model year change-over.” By eliminating the model year, Yamaha will be able to introduce new products (and upgrades) throughout the year, which means Yamaha will be better able to meet consumer needs in a fast changing market.
Additionally, dealers and boat builders are now better able to carry adequate inventory throughout the year because they won’t have to slim down inventory in advance of a new “Model Year.” Therefore, there is a much better chance your dealer will have what you want, when you want it.
All Yamaha outboards have and will continue to have a production date on the unit. A permanent appliqué is located on the starboard side of the outboard mounting bracket. The appliqué is stamped with the month/year of production for that outboard (ex. 04/07).

As someone mentioned, that engine has a Japan "born on date" of 11-2006. If you wanted to call it a model year, you would say its a 2007 program year. That engine is physically more or less the same as one that left Japan yesterday.
Yamaha does not model year engines anymore.......hasn't since 2005.
That particular engine has a YES warranty valid until 07-27-2014.
