Default Cape Horn ?

I have looked all over and cant find this info. Has Cape Horn's 21 always been a 22 deg deadrise boat or did they change the hull within the last few years? Also for those of you with first hand experience, how does the Cape 21 handle versus the 21 Contender. I ask this because I sold my 21 Contender and my wife is really wanting another boat. I have always liked how tough the Capes were built. I do know that the Cape requires more HP than the Contender.

Chuck, I own a 2000 21 ft. Capehorn I bought in 2004. The boat is now 10 years old and solid as a rock. I have had the no issues with the hull except for recently changing the hatch lids (common problem, easy fix). I run a 250 Merc. EFI and would not suggest one with much lower HP, but the 250 does fine. I cruise at about 32-35 and it will run WOT at 47. That being said the boat rides much bigger than 21 ft. and handles extremely well and stable. I can not compare it to a Contender because I have never been in one, but you will not be let down by the Cape Horn. It has a huge 300 qt. fish box in the floor and a 40 gal. livewell. Our typical fishing includes runs of 15-30 miles off the Louisiana Gulf Coast, and the boat does great. Good luck with whatever you decide.

As noted the CH hull changed in 2000. Mostly to dry it out. I posted some pics in this thread http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...lass-21-a.html

I had a 21' cape horn before I bought my 26. GREAT boat. But I would reccomend at least a 250. My 200 was a little sluggish when I was full of fuel, bail well and 4 people onboard.

Yes. That used to be almost verbatim my signature line on this board. But alas I have seen some cracks over the last couple of years. I have no idea why?!? I've been running the boat for a little over a decade now and drive like a grandma...
