Default pacific aluminum boats (black lab marine)

Anyone out there had any experience with these boats? I've had some experience with an old 21ft starcraft mariner, but no aluminum boats since then. They make a lot of claims about the ride in rough water. Any comments would be appreciated.

Several guys here have them and like them. Jay seems like a nice honest man. Cgrand has a 19 and Maineguides has a 23. Greg

Do Pacifics come in a bottle as well?

Only heard good things about them so far.

Love the look of those pilothouse models...
Alloy boats are very cool.
The Pacifics are not your fathers Lund.

I had an old Starcaft too. It was rivited and was she loud when she hit the water. How are the Pacifics. It's much thicker aluminum, but I wonder. Also do they have carpeting? it looks like they do, but I can't be positive.

Go see Jay at Blacklab - and arrange a test ride - tell him you found him via THT - but for Christs sake, don't say anything about 'trouty" or "electrolysis" in the same breath or likely Jay will start getting that 'Quasimodo like' uncontrollable nervous twitch!

Cheers!

I saw what I think was a Pacific pilot house, 23-25?, last weekend in Buzzards Bay, running about 25kn thru 2-4' seas. Looked absolutely awesome. The guys on board looked comfortable and its seemed to be a nice dry ride compared to some other boats trying to stay with him.
I was very impressed with it - based on this admittedly short observation.

well lets see here......

I'm on my second season with a 23' Pacific, I have just under 1000 hrs on the moter which was also new when i bought the boat. I fish out to about 40 miles off shore in search of Bluefin Tuna, sharks and ground fish. I also fish inshore in the rugged rocky coastline for striped Bass and blues. The boat allows me to get into skinny water where the waves are breaking over rocks without fear of ripping my hull apart if my anchor pulls. As far as rough water handling goes...........Pacifics will go anywhere any other boat can go and alot of places some can't!!!!
i mean no disrespect to your old starcraft but its like comparing my golf game to Tiger
woods!!

If you have any questions you should visit Black Lab Marines website at www.blacklabmarine.com or Give Jay Perrota a call ( The owner). Hes a super nice guy that is very low pressure. YOu can also contact me and i'll be glad to answer any questions.

Riveted boats are not nearly the quality of a welded aluminum boat . . . I have owned a riveted aluminum boat and they are great when run on smaller lakes and in other locations where larger waves are not common

Most (not all) riveted boats are not built of marine grade aluminum and therefore are not recommended for continuous salt water use

Jay's boats are welded aluminum, marine grade . . . I also have a similarily constructed boat . . . they are great, strong and light . . . very resistant to hull damage (more puncture proof than fibreglass)

Yes wave slap is somewhat noisier in an aluminum boat but not objectionable . . . it just sounds different from fibre glass

Welded aluminum boats have some other additional advantages . . . easier to modify the layout . . . the hull does not blister . . . you will not get spilter cracks in the finish

Welded aluminum boats are for those who want practical and easy to maintain boats . . . it is easier to get nice compound curves with fibre glass
