Hello all I am looking at several 30ft+ open express boats. I have not visited the Tiara dealer yet but I never see a tower on a Tiara express in the materials I see online. Is it just something that isn't usually done on this line.? Thanks!
You don't see it as a factory option because towers are impossible to ship. Any boat with a tower had it fabricated fairly locally by one of the 15-20 shops in the US that specialize in towers.
No reason why you can't put one on a Tiara, but they have their pluses and minuses, and just for looks isn't one of them, as the trade-off in performance isn't worth it.
You can order a factory tower from MOST companies. For example Rampage ships there boats with towers, they just don't install them until they arrive at destination.
I installed a full tuna tower on my grady 360. it looks great and i have not noticed any negatives whatsoever. fishing is just not the same without a tower...

Weight.
Much higher center of gravity (loss on ride quality, less stability)
More maintenance
Less fuel efficiant
Loss of speed from extra weight, and worst airodynamics..
Bridges!
....
I think a tower is great for my needs, but I am in South Florida. Where a tower is really beneficial is the fishing aspect, obvious I know, but when I am up there (20 ft) I have much better vision to the horizon, spotting birds, and the water when backing down on fish. The biggest benefit from my tower is cruising at night, I have had express/open fishing boats w/o a tower and at night I can see a damn thing because the windshield is tinted. I used to use milk crates to stand on to see over the windshield at night. In the tower I have great viability, night or day.
My tower weighs 1500 lbs, it is on a 33 Tiara Open. That is a lot of weight. This is the equivalent to two inboard engines. While I now cruise 22 and 32 knots (WOT), it is a drag. I am going to tweak my engines to hopefully 400 horses from the current 350hp to improve my GPH and cruising speed.
The biggest problem is who does the installation. When adding this much weight, much care needs to be taken because it is going to change the dynamics of the boat, i.e. how is sits in the water (water runs forward) or worse, to far back, crippling planning time. I suspect certain builders take this into consideration when designing their boats, but I am not sure who.
