Default Re-Backing Boat Carpet?

The snap-in carpet sections in the cockpit have that black rubberized stuff on them, and after several years it's coming off in granules. What can they be sprayed with to keep the granules from going everywhere?

The stuff needs to harden enough that it doesn't come off on the white gelcoat sole.

It needs to be flexible enough to allow rolling the carpet up.

I thought of automotive undercoating, but does it harden enough to keep from smearing?

Any rubberized products we can use? They would seem to be better than anything petroleum based.

Thanks for the PMs renagage69. I did some research on the net and this stuff is a contact cement; apply to two surfaces, let dry, press together and you're done.

What happens if I apply two coats to the bottom of the carpet sections....let dry...and then hope to lay them down (on surfaces that haven't been Pliobonded) and take them up regularly? Will the Pliobonded surface stick to the sole's gelcoat?

It's also not great for your gel coat. As that backing wears off there's no rubber membrane/barrier and now the wet carpet will make direct contact with your gel coat. Unfortunately, it's the perfect environment for softened decks, spider cracks, etc...
