Default Yanmar 6LPA-STP2 315hp

Looking at a 1993 25' Luhrs w/ a 2008 Yanmar 6LPA-STP2 315hp motor in it. Was curious if anyone has any experience with this specific motor in this boat? Just curious to performance numbers/burn rate. Was told it would burn 8gph@ 27kts.. Ride/stability/etc if anyone has been on the boat or any experience with the motor, thanks.

I would doubt it... sounds like they are giving you the cruse speed and then the average fuel burn per hour. I can see where the boat could easily cruse up there and WOT might be up in the 30s. That engine probably couldn't burn 18 gph at wot.

I somewhat agree with boatman, but I really dont think its hitting 30 without sterndrive. If its a straight shaft i would say cruise 20-22 WOT 25-27.

Yanmar has become the #1 choice in hi end repower there clean effecent and quiet i would have no doubt in a single 315 burning 8gph when new

I ran a 26 shamrock with a 250hp cummins that burned around 6 gph and had a top speed of 26.7 kts

You dont buy an inboard diesel boat to run WOT

Yeah, I thought 27kt cruise was high. It is a straight shaft, no outdrive

salvage master- At 80% of wot (recomended cruise) you would guess 8gph is accurate? (whatever cruise speed would be)

they have fuel use charts. 80% throttle probably isn't 8gph. probably 12ish.

Speculation for me...

I have a 38 footer with 330 hp volvo. Yesterday was 7.5 gph at 2200. LOL..I think... 17 mph

I owned a 25 Luhrs with twin 170HP Yanmars for 2 seasons. My boat cruised at 25 MPH at about 75% of max, and got just about 2 MPG at cruise speed. WOT on the boat was about 30 +/- MPH or so. They are a huge 25' boat that feels much bigger and I always enjoyed fishing it on shorter runs. The problem was that having previously owned a 31' Fountain, the ride really was not as good in the open ocean as I had expected, and it just took too long to get out to the good offshore spots 40-50 miles out.

I liked the twin 170HP Yanmars and handling was not that bad with twins, but to me handling that big boat around the docks with a single inboard would be a challenge. Perhaps a bow thruster could help.

I also owned a 25' mod V single stern drive diesel Parker for several years. The single 220HP diesel Parker got much better fuel economy, but the Luhrs was heavier and rode a bit better than the Parker, but the ride was just a bit better. Good luck with your decision and hope this helps.

Yea, look at that. also at 3000,almost 500lbs of torque and makin about 175 hp. They get alot out of that little block. Maybe thats why Volvo gets so much life out of it. So much more is available... I forget already... 245 cubic in?

There is a simple formula that is quite accurate for diesele consumption, Total hp x >05 X percent of load. so for the boat in question it would be 315 X .05 = 15.75 x .8 =12.6 gph.

I have a 26' Strike with a 240 turbo Perkins. Cruise 20-23 knots 2300 rpm with about 6-8 gph.
WOT 2600rpm 14gph. Boat weight around 7500 pounds.

Default 25 Luhrs Performance

RideSober is accurate with the data & boats performance. My 1993 25 Luhrs with twin Yanmar 170's paired with KM5A 2:1 reduction gears & turning 18 x 24 Michigan DQX 4 blade props with a medium cup performed:

Cruise 3100 - 3200 24.5 knots - 26.3 knots ; WOT 3350 29.5 knots; running 600 off the top 22 knot cruise. The average fuel consumption at cruise was a combined 14 gallons per hour + / - conditions. Boat holds 196 gallons of fuel.

There were 4 adults on the boat, 1/2 fuel, no gear, moderate bay conditions. Recorded off installed Furuno NavNet GPS at sea trail.

The performance data for the 315 Yanmar will be added once the installation is complete. Basic setup 315 Yanmar paired with a ZF63A 2:1 reduction gear, 1 1/2 shaft, Michigan DQX 4 Blade 19 x 24 prop with medium cup (test prop). Boat holds 164 gallons of fuel.

There was a lawsuit against yanmar for there motors dropping valves and 315's are one of them I run a 2002 290 luhrs and its in getting the heads done right now under yanmar's deal with their customers. You want to call your local yanmar dealer and see if these motors are part of the recall all they will need are the serial numbers or you can ask the existing owner if he ever brought it in. You had to be the owner of the engine(s) in 2007 to be part of that settlement, it will not apply to the OP

Yes, I was aware of the issues. The model engine that I purchased is a 2009 315 SPT-2 model which should be allset as far as the valve issues goes.
