Default 350 Penta Rev Problem

My friend has a 2000 350 (5.7) penta and took it out yesterday. He said that it wouldn't get above 2500 RPM. Just had the entire fuel system cleaned & polished. Any ideas as to where he should start to look at what might be the cause of the problem?

Cheers!

Common would be the low oil pressure switch (nothing to do with the guage) these fail and the computer limits the motor to around 2500, runs fine below. If you read good oil pressure on the guage pull the single spade terminal wire off the sender and try again. The sender is on the block near where the oil filter is mounted if it did not have a remote filter. (Rear port side)

Or get someone with the ability to read the ECU, volvo uses GM MEFI in 2000 so a mercruiser DTC or laptop with the ability to read MEFI systems will show exactly if there are problems. Have you checked fuel pressures since the work?....

How did it run before the clean and polish?

If it is the low oil pressure switch what does he have to do...take the sender out of the block and replace it with a new one? If so how hard is it to do?

To test it just pull the wire off, restart the motor and test...if you get full rpm's replace the sender. It just screws in where i said it was previously.
