rod holder problem

just got my shipment of weld on rod holders from EMS. i am having problems getting the inserts in the rod holders, the gold ones. on the regular finish rod holders the inserts went in without a problem, but these gold finished holders are a biatch.
any suggestions?

tried h2o and that did not work.
