Default How I Built My Boat, In Photos

To see photos http://picasaweb.google.com/rayateag...wIBuiltMyBoat#

The hull is a Carolina Skiff, Model 2180 DLX. Powered by a Honda 90.

My boat interior is built of exterior plywood with frames of Douglas fir & Pine.

Railings are ¾ square steel tubing. Primered and painted with oil based paint.

Plywood is sealed and painted with Lowes 15 year exterior house paint, repainted after almost 5 years.

Two Minn Kota 24 volt, fore and aft, trolling motors. powered by two Sears Platinum batteries.

Sun shades are removable in about 15 minutes and are stored on the starboard side aft.

Potty has privacy frame and cloth cover.

Nope..This is the last boat I will ever build, plenty big enough for wife and I on the calm lakes we fish.

This boat is 5 years old and in perfect condition, this of course could be because it only sees fresh water a couple times a week and is stored in a insulated and heated barn.

Repainting every 5 years or so is no problem.

The boat looks great! I used 3/4 exterior plywood painted with exterior paint to build a casting deck on a john boat that sits on a dock in the weather 24/7 about 8 years ago and its not rotten yet.

Nice job. I think I would want something better than housepaint between the water and my wood.

Looks very nice and I like how you attached both covers so you can still cast while sitting under them.

A house isn't typically immersed in water...

Ye gads man, the interior of my boat is not “immersed in water“, a little rain on it while fishing is all, which is no problem. In fact we love to fish in the rain.

House outsides are subject to rain, snow, wind, temperature changes etc. Takes a great paint to deal with all that.

fishingfun, My wife just steps outside the shade to cast overhead. I do not cast overhead, just side cast so no problem. Incidentally I can cast as far sideways as most folks can cast overhead.
