You should hire a boat hauler. They will get the boat there quicker and in better shape, not to mention cheaper, than getting a truck/trailer and doing it yourself.
Most trailers aren't built to travel 1200 miles under continuous duty. You have to get a higher end unit (better bearings, springs, etc).
Then, if your rig is wider than8.5 feet wide, you will need permits in every state you pass through. You also can't drive at night or on weekends. Basically you get to through every city at rush hour.
Hire a rigger. It should cost about $1200 each way. Your boat will be happier (those lowriders are sweet), and so will you.
Also, have you ever had your boat in fresh water? It's not a buoyant. If you are riding low in salt water, you might ride REALLY low in fresh.

I tried to do this when I bought my boat a few months ago....basically there is NO rental company that allows you to tow your own trailer. You can indeed rent a truck from them and sneak a receiver in the back but you will have a big problem on your hands if you have a problem or god for bid a wreck.
I would strongly advise your hiring out this job.
freedbaby,
The person who bought my previous boat flew in to Charleston from Miami, rented a U Haul truck in Charleston, and towed the boat back on its own trailer to Miami.
The truck was equipped with both four pin and seven pin sockets and a ball mount and two inch ball. The U Haul company told him to contact me in advance to make sure the trailer was compatible with the truck. It was a one ton box truck, not a pickup.
Perhaps it's a local thing, perhaps they consider each rental individually, I don't know. I do know what happened in this situation.
If you are interested in hiring somebody. My cousin is a very experinced hauler. Towed cars from Ft. Laud to Tampa 8-10 loads a week, Let me know. You will have to supply the trailer.
There are tons of 38 fountains on the SKA trail so towing one is not that big an issue. Chuck Arnold, the old Fountain Rep, used to tow one with an Excursion up and down the coast for years, heck i think he towed the thing from Virgina to Mexico with a F350 at one point.
Go get a nice truck, talk to Myco about the right trailer and go up to NY. As for posters claiming the speed limit is 45 well...the speed limit is 65 on the highway and you have a Lamborgini.....how often do you adhere to speed limits?

can you show me a trailer manufacturer that makes this statement? This is the first time I have heard that some trailers are not worthy of a 1200 mile run. please post a link, tx
One other point. If you keep it in NY for more than 60 days, you will end up owing them sales tax to them on that beast. Well, at least the difference between ny's tax rate and fl's......
That might be a shiny penny or three.

With the cost of a rental trailer, fuel costs and tolls, on a round trip excusion,, that should be close to the cost of an experinaced hauler,, not to mention the hassle of trailering a boat up and down the eastern seaboard..been there done that, it aint no walk in the park, if its not your job..
