I agree. Gotta phone number for it?

Edit: Okay I will say, I think it's a bit underpowered, but at that price you can't go wrong if the boat is straight up, not hurricane, etc. I had a 256 with 150's on the back and it was good, but 200's would have been ideal. But, like I said, if it's straight up, you can't go wrong.

By the way, the 256 I owned was a 1989 model, granted the motors were '04 Hondas with zero warranty. Sold it a couples years ago for $20K...

from what I know they move ok w/ a 250,,but a 300 works very well. It is rated for 450hp.

nice price,,survey and sea trial it

A good friend of mine has the exact same set-up (same year, same power) and it is a great boat. Not a speed demon, but we regularly run it to Bimini out of Port Everglades with no issues. Takes rough water well. Got caught coming back from Bimini in 8' to 10' once, and felt comfortable. Cruises 24k at 4400 burning about 18 gph. He paid right at twice that from the factory w/o trailer.

I disagree that it is underpowered with a single 250. The Dusky 25 has a large flare up front but the beam decreases significantly toward the stern, also the deadrise isn't as steep as many other 25' boats. The result is that it can run well with less power and likely not need any tab at all to efficiently plane and cruise. Not a speed demon but my guess is that cruise will be approaching 30 knots at 4500 RPM. Dusky probably has the specific performance #'s on their site.

http://www.dusky.com/performance/dus256_perf.html
Here is a link to performance #'s with a single 225 direct inject (predicessor to Etec). Evinrude has been conservative regarding horsepower at the prop on their Etec series so I am willing to bet the true, actual horsepower of the 250 Etec is significantly more than the older verision 225, however for purposes of argument let's say it's the same. At 4500 RPM they are seeing 36.5 MPH at 2.5 MPG. Hopefully you realize how different the boat the original post is refering to versus your 26 XL.

Depends on what you are planing to use the boat for if it is a good deal or not.

If you are going to fish close to putout, and not planning on long runs. Boat and motor in good shape then it is a good deal.

If you plan to fish offshore, then no it is not a good deal.

You guys really need to see this Boat, it doesn't impress me as much as I thought it would. I would take it on a sea trial and have survey done first....before buying it.

I personally would value the
Boat at $10K...Motor at $10K...Trailer at $1K....Total = $21K

I'm not discouraging you from buying the boat if you like it, but it is very plain and basic boat with just a T-Top, CC, and the smallest learning post I've ever seen. The trailer has seen better days, and will need some work. The Motor is the best part of this package even with 650 hours in just around three years.

I would make sure that the motor has been serviced properly and has had all it's updates and is current by the manufacture standards. That boat listing price has been reduced again and is close to being sold...Good Luck.

Regards,
Big R

Look at the preformance numbers with the Evinrude 225 HP in the link bigbender provided. Seems your friend should be getting betters numbers. Is he proped right and is the engine height right?

Seems to be burning a lot of fuel for the preformance.

Thanks for all the reply's, yes I thought it was a bit under powered myself but seems like people are saying that it shouldn't be bad im not looking to race anyone just looking to fish off shore and make the run to Bimini. Seems like people think its a good deal, maybe ill go get it surveyed and see what it turns up.

Thanks!

I would never make the run to bimini on a single motor unless you go with another boat. Hell, I don't think I'd make the run to bimini even with twins or trips unless I went with a buddy boat, but that's just me and a topic for a whole nother thread.

Good luck with everything, I hope it works out well for you. Keep us posted.

I ran a Dusky 256CSS powered by a single 225 EFI Suzuki 2 stroke, put many hours offshore filing the coolers with grouper and snapper. It was not a speed demon, but worked just fine.
