Default Pro Line and Cobia Boats

I am looking for a fairly new used boat to fish offshore. I am selling my Hydra Sport and I am looking at the Pro Line and Cobia Boats in the 23' to 24' range. I have never riden in either one. Does anyone have any performance information for either Pro Line or Cobia boats. I predominately fish offshore so I am looking for a well built boat that will handle the seas well.

Thanks
Rob

Do a search of each brand and you will have pleanty to read. I think both brands compare well with each other. I have owned two Pro-lines and have been pleased with what the boats have had to offer for the money. They are both high production value boats that are quite seaworthy. They will not compete with the Grady's, Albemarles, Regulators or the like as far as quality goes but you are not paying the high dollar either. I think when deciding between these two brands you will need to look at the layout for your needs and the deal on the table. Good luck!

I have owned a 2003 Pro-Line 22 Walk for 1 year and about 150 hours.

I have had no problems with boat at all and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing I have had to replace was a cup holder my wife broke. The dealer gave me two new ones for free. I will buy another Pro-Line when I move up.

Performance data is at:

I have a 2003 Cobia 214cc and have been happy with the boat. I have had minor problems with accessories but nothing with the boat itself other than a minor gelcoat imperfection that the dealer fixed with no problem. I agree with the earlier post that you're definitely not getting or paying for one of the top end boats, but when I looked around a year ago, I couldn't find a bigger better 21 footer for the money. It's a fast, smooth-riding and seaworthy boat. I've had her in five foot sloppy seas, and the boat was ready for more than I was. I also agree with the layout comment, and the Cobia's layout fit my needs and is why I ended up with it. When you are looking at Cobia, though, be careful in comparing the 21 and 23 footers. Unless I missed something, the 234 was essentially a 214 with a pulpit. Very little difference unless you move up to the 254. Good luck.

The 234 will be a lil bigger than the 214 but I would difinitely look at the 254. It is really about a 24' footer. The 234 is really a 22'. Be sure and do the search. If you buy a Cobia Be sure and GET THE TABS. It will improve the ride tremendously..

I currently own a 99 Cobia 204 CC (now marketed as the 214 CC). I have only had a couple of minor issues with the boat. If you get a Cobia I would strongly recommend getting trim tabs.

I have been on the 234 and 254 Cobia also. If you're considering Proline as well, the Proline 23 Sport rides better IMHO than any of the Cobias. The Proline 23 Sport has a 22 degree deadrise at the transom (20 degree for Cobias) and a much sharper entry at the bow.
