Wow Im glad everyone made it. I try to get people to fish off the side of my boat while trolling and never have the engines in gear when fishing off the stern. I had to clear one of my props off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel one day in decent conditions and that was a pain. I know I have a tough sea worthy boat but I still wont go out in anything more than 4 feet, I have worked on the water long enough to know how quickly things change. I admit mu pfds are tucked away in the cabin under some fishing gear but if I ever needed then I hope I would be able to get to then quick enough. If things hit the fan they would be out quick. When were out fishing im always alert and never drink (i have a capt's license so it would be a dumb move anyway) I rarely even catch a fish myself these days. Im just glad these guys made it. that boat reminds me of a Parker it looks seaworthy but if you loose an engine it makes a big difference.

Courageous post. Best of the year!
Janet once asked me "how does a perfectly good boat sink"? Quickly, was my reply.
You can go over every scenario you can think of and still .......
Boynton inlet comes to mind. No dredging or sand pumping last year in Dec. A 14 yr. dive boat Capt. rolled his 42`er on a bar. Real fast. Real scary. All survived.

When I go through my safety speach with newbies on my boat, they all ignore me after the first sentence. I can see it. Please listen to the Capt./operator. Your loved ones want you to come home.

Enjoy your hollidays with your family!

Cheers,
Sandy

WOW! Great thread. I am glad everyone survived. Thats all that maters when things go wrong. I have friends that think im wierd cause I talk about what I would do in a bad situation but it pays to talk it out. You think of the strangest things when s--- hits the fan.
I allways think of stupid things like if you find yourself in the drink take off the boots first and any loose clothes. Fast thinking saves lives.

Great post, and thanks for clearing the rumors that where being spread here in San Diego about what happened.
I frequently go out of Mission bay Inlet and it scares the crap out of me on most days. My wife won't go out that way unless the weather is perfect. On a side note the City of San Diego annouced recently that they will be dredging the channel and working on the inlet to improve the situation, it hasn't been dredged in many, many years. Thank god it didn't take a death to get it done.
