Default 29' capsized on 11/28. All 6 survive

This was written by the captain of the vessel. It flipped coming back into mission bay and washed into the channel between the jetties. The lifeguard boat shown in the pictures flipped a couple hours later trying to tow in the boat. The 2 lifeguards were wearing dry suits and survived. Sea Tow ended up collecting the boat later.

Swell was huge on Sat. Bad decision to even go out and fish but glad they all made it home.

The big lesson is that wearing a PFD inside the cabin can pin you against the cabin sole when the boat flips.

When the sole becomes a roof you may not be able to swim downward to clear the inverted hull. Scary stuff!!!!

That is exactly why I don't like self inflating PFD's. All of the inflatable PFD's on my boat are the manually operated models.

Yep, that’s why I also have a manual inflatable and also a knife on the same belt. The captain exagerated that one would die if he had a lifevest on. He didn’t die and the inflatible he was wearing is much more bouyant than a regular vest. The air pocket in the hull would still be there because the hull is waterproof thus also air proof. The key is not to panic. The boat turtled because he pushed the throtle to “full power” and one prop was turning much faster than the other (due to the line fouling) thus turning the boat beam to the waves. I’m pretty sure that had he just kept moderate power and keep the boat heading down seas he would have been fine.
