I voted for Yahama. Have owned all different sizes. I currently have a Mercury EFI 115 hp. Actually I am very impressed with it. Maybe because it has a Yammy power head.
Surprised Suzuki didnt get a better showing. Anyone that I have talk to that has owned them loves them. A guide by me claims he has 400hours on his.
wow, i cant believe the yammies still score that high with the corrosion issues ive been hearing about. do yall think most of the votes are for 2 strokes ? or do that many people still believe in the bigger 4 stroke motors?
Living on Kodiak Island in Alaska I have a lot of experience with Honda, Suzuki and E-tec's. I currently have a 2006 250 E-tec on my boat and have ran it day in and day out hauling up to 5,000 pounds of lumber at least 50% of my runs and have had 0 problems with the motor. We still haven't even had the 3 year maintenance done on the motor and it fires up every time and runs like a bat out of hell. We run the XD 100 oil in ours and I know that they few people here in town that have had a few problems with their E-tecs were all running the XD 50 oil.
Interesting thread. Last year at the Boston boat show most of the bigger manufacturers were showing Yamaha engines on their boats. Personelly I like the Hondas but the two are so close in reputation around here that you shouldn't go wrong with either make.
Yamaha coming in with the vast majority of votes(including mine) is no surprise. With the amount of money Mercury spends on marketing, you'd figure they would rank above Suzuki. Glad to see that the one with the most money doesn't necessarily mean it's better.
I'm surprised there's been no mention of the USCG and other gov't fleets using E-tecs... at least, according to Evinrude advertising... which I haven't been bothered to verify, but assume they couldn't lie about that, right?
