The Dead 200 Optimax Followed 'The Pumpers' advice on checking all fuel line connections. Found one that had
a wet connector inside the tube where everything enters the engine. When I had the
'GREY' line off of the plastic connector I found it lined with this light yellow stuff resembling plastic. Some was frayed. Replaced the line. Bought a manual and read
up on the fuel system and how to test things. 1st test was putting a guage on the inlet
of the ENGINE PULSE fuel pump. Needle did nothing. Removed the pump & took it apart.
Lo'n behold there was a strip of the stuff from the grey hose about 1 inch long and about
3/16" wide stuck in one of the round valves. Went up to the marina'n bought a re-build kit.
Spoke with the service mgr and showed him the piece of foreign matter. He reached over
and lifted a length of grey hose and asked if mine looked like that. "YUP, SURE DID!!"
Said that the grey hose was notorious for collecting this matter and it's from the ethanol
in the gasoline. Said "we have hose that won't do this". Same stuff I keep handy for
other power equipment. Inspected the other sections and they were clear. Got cold and
windy plus was getting dark out so I'll know if I have to go further tomorrow. So, If any of
you readers have a grey rubber hose after the squeeze ball, I suggest you check it out.
