Default 1968 Betram Restoration

Does anyone have any advice of know anyone that could do this restoration for a decent price in the South Carolina/North Carolina area. I beleive its a 1968 betram?? or maybe a sea sport

Looking to make it a CC with a single OB motor bracket. Hull in perfect condition, no painting needed, just inside work.

Also how do you get a self-bailing cockpit, is that what "sea cocks" are for, water drains to them and they drain through scupper to water.

If a boat (typically all CC models) are considered "self-bailing" why is there always (2) bilge pumps, how and where do they work??

Thanks Guys

Self bailing means the deck...or part you stand on. This means the deck is usually at or above the water line and any water that comes in goes to the scuppers and out. You still have areas under the deck in most boats that need bilge pumps in case of water intrusion.

I am not trying to be mean but if you need to ask these kinds of questions you are probably not in a position to take on a major project like this. Read some of the "build" threads here and on Classicmako.com to get some idea of what you are facing.
Everyone on THT started off without experience. You should get something smaller and in better shape and work on it for a while. when you have done a few projects on it you will get an idea of what you can and cannot do.
I wish you all the best. Laird

would probably be cheaper just to buy seaniles boat then to take that project on., not sure how well that will do with a single outboard.

your first boat should not be a restoration project. most long time boaters do not have the expertise to make the decisions during the process. dont buy a project if you dont know what you are getting into.

seanile is sold too late to buy that well done boat. It was one of the best resto jobs of a 31b.

Don't feel bad about asking those questions. You're allowed to, everyone has to start somewhere, but, as previously mentioned, you probably shouldn't invest in a restoration if you don't know exactly what you want.

I paid a shop to completely restore a '72 SeaCraft and while I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable boater, I was amazed at what I learned throughout the process.

What size Bertram are you looking at? Our Bertram has a self bailing cockpit from the factory in 1965. I am need to redo the deck and when I do I am raising it 1 inch because it gets the decks a little wet when it isn't perfectly balanced. I have two bilge pumps, but they rarely come on. They are used in case there is a leak and to drain water that finds its way into the bilge.

Bobby Gelkin, just outside of Charleston SC has done several from 20' to 32'. He can do as much or little as you want and you can do the rest.
