I need to replace at least my 2 house batterys next year and have started to look around. Does anyone have any recomendations? I am putting them on a cruiser.
Deka Marine Masters..by far the best battery I have ever used plus they are very reasonable. They are made by East Penn which is one of the biggest mfgs for batteries.

Expensive but the Sears Diehard Platinum is great. Made by Odessey.
When looking for replacement batteries for my previous boat, I stopped by Sears to check on Diehard batteries. The salesman was an idiot, I know far more about batteries than he did. His eyes glazed over when I started asking questions.
I ended up with Interstate from a dealer who knew batteries. Dekka is probably better but I couldn't find them around here.
I bought 2 interstate and then added 2 house batterys that I got from Costco. The interstate went bad last week(both of them). The prorated them and I was going to save $25 per battery. I opted not to buy them. The two costco batterys are still runing strong.
Been using Interstate deep cycle group 27's for better than 10 years now.
AGM's are too expensive when you need 4 of them and rotate 2 in and 2 out every third year to keep them fresh.
Actually there is only 1 bad battery out there...........that would be Exide.
I went with the Sear's AGM group 31, they have a full replacement warranty and I'm pretty sure when thats up a prorated warranty kicks in.
The warranty just sealed the deal. It's big and heavy, the case thick and solid, just a nicely built battery. Battery hold downs can be a problem with the stepped top of the battery, 5 minutes of dremel work on the hold down top and it fit like a glove.
Clearly, there are many different opinions about what represents a good battery. It makes for a more interesting conversation than if there had been one clear top dog in the market.

For house batteries - deep cycle's, if price is not a concern, the absolute best are the Surrette 4000 series, which also come with a 7 year warranty. A group 27 is about $300, roughly 3x the price of s Sears, and an 8D is about $650, more than double the price of a Deka. Surrette makes lots of different commercial grade batteries.
