Surging 115 I've got a 1999 Johnson J115PLEEM on a Lowe 180WZ. I fish mainly brackish to inshore saltwater. Motor surges at 3/4 to wot so bad that it will slow down to almost stop. Less throttle, it runs fine. Mechanic just replaced powerpack & sensor, cleaned carbs and replaced all needle & seats. For approximately a year at first, motor just skipped until it got warmed up, approx 30 min underway. Last time it skipped, jumped, popped all day which is why I took it to the mechanic; mechnic states new powerpack stopped the skipping. New spark plugs didn't help, have also installed inline 10 micron johnson filter and water separator. Same results with or without filter/water separator. Have checked contents of filter a couple times which shows minute black and sandy specs not enough to impede flow, no water as I fish at least twice a month so the gas is fairly fresh. Seasoned mechanic says there's no such thing as ethanol proof fuel hoses. The surging has been present for a while but as long as I cruise 35 or less it's fine. Don't know at what rpm it starts as tach went out years ago. Mechanic says pumping the bulb seems to help. Appreciate all help and insight. |
