Default Trading 2500 HD for Ford F150 4X4

I'm thinking about trading my 07 GMC 2500 Diesel for a new 2010 F150 4x4. I must be crazy, right. The Diesel tows like you would not believe on the hwy. I'm just not towing long distance very much and the diesel 2500 is to big sometime running around town. I looked at the new Ford Crewcab 4x4 last week and I like what I saw. Dealer said I could tow with one this week before buying. I may try one towing my 2200 Ranger Bay and see if it does the job. The f-150 would be better running around town. Do you think I'm crazy? Thanks Rangerman

If "ALL" you are towing is that 22 Bay Ranger F-250. Feel free to skip the diesel. The F150 is plenty of truck for hauling that boat around.

That 2500 HD should rate at 15,500 on a fifth wheel and almost 10500 on the hitch. Seems your shooting a mouse with a 30-06.

The F-150 can tow that 2200 Bay Ranger F-250 Yamaha all day long no problems.

See if it does the job? You're looking at a truck with a tow rating of 9000+ lbs and you have a 3500 lb boat... I think it'll do.

if my 05 2500HD Gas 6.0 will tow my 31 contender cross country with no problems then you will be sweet with that F-150.

keep the diesel. I drive my buddies 09 F-150 and my 05 Z-71 from time to time and it makes me miss my Duramax. You will miss the extra bed space unless you get the F-150 crew cab with the 6.5' bed, in which case it is the same length as your Duramax and no easier to get around town. I will never go back to gas if I don't have to, but I tow trailers of all sizes very regularly. Plus of you have the 07 classic, you have the LBZ which is the most bullet proof Duramax diesel/ Allision transmission combo GM ever put out.

If all you tow is the 22 ranger bay, you are good with the F150...

I am curious what are they offering you for trade in value for the Diesel? I have the 2003 2500 HD and I don't think I would ever go back to a gas motor. I am trying to get my wife to buy a diesel car but she wont bite. I just changed my first set of brake pads at 98,000 and didn't even need them yet. I swear by the HD except for the front wheel bearings which I changed at 70,000.

gj2794: I have not got to the pricing yet. I'm just thinking about trading. I've got to tow with that F150 before I'll even consider letting that duramax go. After reading all these post, its making me think real hard. Really like the new Fords, but the 2500 HD has been great. The short 5 ft bed on the Ford would be a problem. Can't even get my rods to fit. Got to really think about this. Thanks for all the input. Rangerman

Your planning on Ford giving you some cash back on this deal aren't you?

IMO you're nuts.

I think i read some place that in 2010 or 2011 there is going to be a new for motor?? 6. something.........might want to look into that.

Like i said i would love to have a deisel but i just cant justify the cost for the weight that i tow but if i did have one id never get rid of it.

Then on the other hand Ford is better for the economy. No bailout money and that alone will earn my business in the future weather its a gas or deisel.

If you already have the diesel, keep it. Its a waste of money getting a new truck if you don't need one.

That said, I towed my Wellcraft 210 Fisherman with an '03 F-150 SuperCrew and it did great. The newer ones are rated for more weight, so you'd be in fine shape. No complaints about the engine power or anything. I was only towing around South Florida though...and my biggest hill was the 7 mile bridge and the I-95 bridge over New River...

Default Keep it

Your diesel will be worth even more in a year or so when the crazy emissions laws hit diesels.

It's hard to resist the interior packages inside the Ford Trucks isn't it.....Which one are you looking at the Lariat, the FX4, XLT, or the King Ranch. Regardless, whichever one their are over a few dozen combinations to choose from, all are pretty sweet.

Your not crazy to do that trade, report back to us after your Towing Land Trial. Also about the short bed, have your dealer put in the extender. You'll go from a 5.5' bed to a 7' bed when needed.

Mine are:

2007 Ford F150 Crew Cab 5.4L FX4 White Exterior with Black Leather Sport Captain Chairs and Console with 20" Stock Wheels. This is my everyday vehicle and tows everything <9900#.

For all of our Heavy Towing and our Long trips we jump in our:

2003 Ford F350 Crew Cab 7.3L Lariat Diesel Dually 8' Tonneau Cover White Exterior with Gold Leather Seats.

By far the best Trucks I've ever owned and are keep and maintained as good as the boats.

Crazy trade, no way.... I can understand it especially for driving around town or in the city. The F150 drives as nimble as a car and is easy to maneuver. Can't say the same about the Dually, you really are in a big boy no doubt about it, but I proud to say that the original skirts have never been damaged. ( Hope I just didn't jinx myself )

I would strongly recommend getting the 4 wheel drive on any type of 1/2 Ton P/U regardless of make.

Regards,
Big R
