Default Help Wiring Yamaha Outboards

I bought a boat with 1999 225 HP Yamaha os66 2 strokes that are seized
I want to put my 2004 Yamaha 300 HPDI 2 strokes on it
The wiring plugs in and the gauges look the same
My question is are they the same ?
I dont want to hook it up and fry something
Any advice would be appreciated

Rob

They are the same. All you might need to do is to change the dip switch setting on the tach from the three wire sender position to the two wire sender position.

Jethro1 is correct. The 10 pin harness is the new one and it will fit both of your applications. Just finished wiring up 2 F150 Yammies back in July and had one new harness but needed a longer one for Port engine and got it from a dealer with "Old New Stock".

It was easier than the old days of OMC

I went through the wirirng and the 10 point plugs right in and also the blue plug for the oilers
There is on clear plug that matches but only has 2 wires instead of 4 and another clear that does not fit anywhere
Does anyone know what the 2 clear plugs on the harness of the OS66 are? And where they would go on the HPDIs ?
Thank You

When you say "clear" plug are you talking about an ivory colored nylon connector?

The trim/oil harness has two connectors at each end. One set of the harness connectors plugs into mating connectors at the engine side and the other set should already be connected to your tachometer.

Ten pin harness, remote oil tank harness, and trim/oil harness. That and the battery cables are usually all of the electrics that are used. Unles there is a standalone temperature gauge which also has a harness that goes to the sender.

Your motor might have a refrigerator white connector but if so that is for the Command Link connection.

there is a special adapter harness from the old rigging to the newer motors for those clearish colored plugs you are talking about....go to your local dealer and tell the parts guy what you are doing and he should have them in stock...it a very common item...i keep them in my shop all the time....

Thank you for the input
I am putting engines on this week and will probably stop by my local dealer and let them have a quick look at the wiring. The Blue oiler wires are the same but the 2 others I dont know what they are
I do have the engine on a stand and did hook up the 10 point and the motor turned over and gauges lit up
Im anxious to get it in the water
