Default Antifouling for bronze props

I need to paint my bottom and wanted to get advice fon anitfouling paint/treatments for my props and shaft. Barnacles grow very quickly in the area of the chesapeake where my boat is at. I know your not supposed to use copper based paints due to the dismilarity of the metals. I was consdering trilux but this agent says its indicated for aluminum drives

Thanks,

Dan

I have tried everything. Live in South Fla V high fouling

1.Zinc Chromate primer, followed by Trinidad. Will work until the paint comes off. 4 mos max. then I am diving
2.Propspeed. Works if you run the boat once a week. V expensive. Once it starts to come off. Done, then I am diving
3.No paint. Get in water every Friday with a hooka rig and a scotch pad. Half hour, works best, but you cant get in the water in Chesapeake in December.

Go with propspeed and run the boat

Zinc Chromate (the yellow stuff) has been banned (controlled distribution) in many states. It is listed as a known carcinogen by the EPA and is to be treated as a hazardous chemical. Inhaling the paint dust or chips can be harmful. Many off the shelf marine metal primers now contain zinc phosphate. In my experience, it doesn't work nearly as well as the older primers but then again neither do non lead based primers.

Stronchium Chromate is still available, and is a good primer. There is no problem with "dissimilarity of metals" with copper and bronze props.

Epoxy on well cleaned props will help to get better adherence of bottom paint. But I agree that polished and Prop speed--or polished and diver regularly.

Prop speed on the wheelsand shafts. If you don't run the boat then get over every couple weeks with a terry towel and wipe them off. I have a diver do mine every 4 weeks here in the summertime on the Viking I run, less in the winter. Before propspeed I was diving every 6 days to keep the wheels clean. With propspeed, application is the key. The preparation and application instructions must be followed absolutely to a t. The only peopleI've heard of that were unhappy with it were those where the instructions were not followed.
I know people who have had good results with Mussel Buster, a 2 part baked on coating. But you have to send the wheels to someone who is certified to do it.
