Default How to? Gaskets on fish boxes

I was wanting to put a gasket on the underside of the lid of my fishboxes but was wondering if there were any tricks to the trade to line the gasket up with the lip of the boxes. I know I could just put the hatch tape on the top of the lip but would prefer it on the lid. Any ideas?

I've got a few methods you can try:

1. get in the fishbox with a pencil and a flashlight if it's a big box and mark it along the flange.

2. make some small balls of modeling clay and put them on the flange of the box. close the lid and you will impress the modeling clay into the lid. Some of the clay will stick to the lid and some will probably stay on the flange. Even if the clay sticks to the flange it will likely leave some residue on the lid.

3. measure and mark carefully.

Cut a templet out of cardboard to match the fishbox lid, put double side tape on top of cardboard , lay cardboard templet on top of fishbox and close lid very carefully cardboard templet will stick to fishbox lid then just trace outline.

I'd use toolmaker's die. Just be careful not to get it everywhere. Should be real easy.

Thanks for the help. One of my projects for a bad weather weekend. Any other ideas? How do they do it at the factory?

And does anyone have suggestions for good quality gasket material. Brand?, store or online purchaseetc.? I used the cheap foam stuff which did not last so I will be looking to redo mine as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated...
