If it was such a concern of yours, then why not take a look before buying? Isn't that the purpose of a survey?
he may not have done a survey.....but regardless, if he asked the YF factory for that bit of info, it should have been correct. Let's give it some time.

looking forward to an explanation.....i have a feeling it will be taken care of. At the very least u have multiple yellowfin owners on here, some who value their forum reputation, who will be on your side when it comes to resolving a dispute.
I love the boat,i had a 31 never any problems,i know yellowfin owners take pride in there boats, that is why i have one,
Well now your post makes more sense, so this is a pre-owned 2009 34 that you did not buy from the factory and bought from a private party, right?
When you called Richard and/or Wylie did you give them the hull i.d. # when asking specifically about the boat you were buying and the tanks that were in that particulary boat? YF switches to the following year model in July of the preceding year, so your boat may have been built in either the summer/fall/winter of 2008.
Like already addressed here, the factory is usually stellar when it comes to service. I have owned two YFs and I always left totally happy when it came to service; so, though you'll get some on here that will be sarcastic or say that YF owners are "over reactive" it is only because normally YF will do the right thing to make sure their customers are taken care of and we just want to set the record straight.
One other small detail about these boats is they kick azz in the rough stuff!!
If I can help in any way let me know or PM me. Good luck!
Agreed...there is not much info about what all was done. Maybe the OP can post a few more details and explain the situation a little further?
To me though, if I was that concerned about a specific thing that I specifically bought a certain year to avoid it, then I would've checked myself. Nothing better than putting your eyes on it yourself...goes for anything not just boats.
did you buy the boat sight unseen? if you looked over the boat and were concerned enough to call the factory about the tanks it seems that a simple hatch check would have been in order. i dont see anything wrong with questioning their customer service but at least give it a couple of days for them to respond

I you were selling your expensive boat would you let someone start cutting the access cover out of your boat, the raeson for not chking any further is because the factory told me ALL 2009 models had aluminum tanks.production new model begins july, this boat was built in mid august 2008 and advertised as a 2009 hull ID last five digits 4H809 .
baronman,
You don't have to justify yourself. Yellowfin does make an incredible boat and seem to be running a top notch company, but no one is perfect unfortunately. If I were you I would be pissed as all hell. An 09 boat with a fiberglass tank after all the ethanol issues...Come on! Some guys just can't even imagine yellowfin could make a mistake and pounce on people who suggest it...those same guys would be all over fountain/contender/invincible if the tables were turned. I will say, wylie does seem to have a good track record for making things right...so good luck with everything. I would also hate to see the decks pulled up on my brand new boat to put new fuel tanks..but fwiw, I don't think the fix is going to be that big of a deal...the fuel tanks don't necessarily have to be changed...I want to say it can be as easy as changing out a screan/filter. Again, good luck...I'm fairly certain YF will make this right!

You dont have to cut anything. You can see from the bilge where the fuel lines emerge. All it takes is a flashlight and 2 minutes. While I am sympathetic to your surprise I really dont understand what the big deal is. The problems with the glass tanks were isolated, the factory offers two solutions and frankly I never had any issues with my glass tanks. In other words..... stop sweating it!
Now as to the misrepresentation.... your issue is with the seller. You certainly cant expect W or Richard to buy the boat back or change out to aluminum just because you didnt do sufficient due diligence. Run the boat, enjoy it and if you are one of the few to experience issues then let YF fix it as part of the warranty program.

i can't believe that if this story is true as told, that anyone, even the staunchest of yf defenders would say this is ok.
it's an 09. it has glass tanks.
if op was told by yf they didn't make them that way in 09 (and if the original owner didn't cut the boat open to replace the original aluminum tanks with glass ones) then op gets free aluminum installed or some other bargained upon remedy.

If If If. If the Queen had balls she'd be King
The guy asked a simple question and should get a simple answer. Its not rocket science.
Wait a minute...... YELLOWFIN DIDNT SELL HIM THE BOAT. They are good but not that good. Its like buying a used car and bitching to the dealer about the motor size. He bought it, he failed to check, he needs to step up and take responsibility. So eager to find a flaw in YF that you guys pile onto a second hand transaction and blame the factory. Pretty lame.

Hello brett i buy a boat to keep not like some people that trade every year,I took the word from yellowfin that All 2009 models and newer had aluminum tanks.Should i have doubted what the owner of yf/Wylie told me?

PM me pics of the boat, specs and the seller. I bet I will get you your sale price back in a month or less. Then you can order a new boat.
Look, I am not rabidly defending YF but the fact is even if they make a mistake in informing you what is your recourse?? Nothing. Take it up with the seller. Did the seller answer the question??

Do ANY research on this site or any and pretty much the key theme is CHECK THE BOAT OUT before you buy it! That is not rocket science either...actually about as basic as it comes. How much sense does it make to call around, research a possible specific issue, buy the boat without verifying that the issue was nonexisting, and then complain that it exists when you do check after you bought it? Actually, doesn't make you look very smart... Sounds like there is a little more to this story that we don't know about as well.
Regardless of all that, seems like the factory will take care of any problems anyhow if there is an issue. Like Brett said, enjoy the boat and if there's a problem call the factory and they'll fix it.
