Default Go-Fast Center Console Roundup in December Powerboat Magazine

Decembers issue has test info for the 39' Cigarette Top Fish, 36' Deep Impact Open Fish, and 36' Sonic Cuddy.

Here are some of the details:

39' Cig Top Fish (triple)
12,800 pounds dry
418 gallons fuel
Price as tested - $482,017
Triple 300 Verados spinning 23 pitch Rev4's
4.9 seconds to plane
57mph in 20 seconds
30-50mph 8.4 seconds
Top speed = 68.2mph at 6000rpm

36' Deep Impact (quad)
16,600 pound dry
420 gallons fuel
Price as tested $452,261
Quad Mercury Racing 350 Verados
29 Pitch Mirage Plus on the inside
28 pitch Bravo Ones on the outside
6.8 seconds time to plane
68mph in 20 seconds
30-50mph 3.8
40-60mph 6.5 seconds
Top speed = 83mph at 6000rpm

36' Sonic Cuddy (twin)
7400 pounds dry
240 gallons fuel
Price as tested $280,214
Twin Mercury Racing 350 Verados
23 pitch Mirage Plus
6.2 seconds time to plane
58mph in 20 seconds
30-50mph 7.1 seconds
Top Speed 69.2mph at 6100rpm

One interesting comment was that the quad powered DI had guardian mode issues in hard turns. Seems the 350 is still very sensitive to this.
Check out the weight on the DI
Overall I think the Sonics performance is pretty impressive for twins. They felt it would break 70mph with better conditions. Not enough fuel capacity for its size though. You could almost buy two though!

Four eighty for the Cigarette? Those guys gotta be smoking crack or meth or something GOOD. At least at $450K the Deep Impact has a fourth motor...

I subscribe to it. Great bathroom material. You want me to send you my old copeis

The acceleration numbers on the quad boat are pretty impressive. I think the Cig is ugly and like these types of boats. Too gaudy. These are not fishing boats, these are high performance SUV's. Think Porche Cayenne.

All the quad 350V boats are too ass heavy. They are roughly 650 pounds heavier than a quad Opti boat all hanging off the stern. Proof is in the top speed numbers. They just dont perform like you would expect/hope/pray/tell everyone...etc etc..

Nobody but him really knows

I know that go-fast boats with twin i/o's often stagger the engines so they can be placed closer to each other and place more weight forward. You just cant do it with outboards and the balance is screwed up.

I also understood that the staggered motors allow the engines to mounted closer to the centerline, but that is just what I heard. The quad acceleration numbers are impressive, but the all things considered the sonic's numbers with twins are interesting. Then again a 38 triple powered fountain runs about the same price as the twin powered sonic.

Th Sonic is light. I mentioned the staggered engiens getting them closer together ie. centerline. Maybe a bow mounted 350V ???

Lets face it the gaurdian for the 350v is to sensative. They require 18psi of water pressure. My boat was like a block ahead of all the other boats before the gaurdian went off.

Soon my boat will have lower water pickups and jackplates and the gaurdian adjusted.

I thought if you adjust the guardian on the engine it would VOID the warranty? Why didnt you just do that from the begining before the grove?

Homey, the quad 350's definitey accelerate. This test is the first place I have seen actual hard data to show that. Miss LA is a faster boat and propabably runs better in the rough due to being better balanced. Just remember that jack plates are going to move all that weight even further back. There are plates that allow you to move the engine higher than the stock holes allow but only set the engines back a hair. The are not adjustable though.
Powerboat has been doing more CC tests. You should see if they want to test your boat.

I'd guess they are the only manufacture who listed actual weight rather then "dry" weight. And................we all know what "dry" weight means......nada!

b/c the only trip 350 38 fountain was fishing a tournament where also outran all of the competition including multiple 350 yam and merc yellowfins.

The trip 350 fountain ran 82 out of the box and has seen 83 after breakin. Quad 300 opti 38's run 85 out of the box, and will run over 90 with some work
