the new 39 CC NorTech fairs up well on speed with trip 300's.. 73mph. The ride is amazing..no bow rise when getting on plane, and rides awesome through the ruff stuff... A few are being built, and one with quads is coming up shortly. I thought the article was interesting to read...I feel the performance CC's will be hot over the next few years.
I tried to get them to test my boat, but they declined:
Hi Scott,
Thanks for your email regarding the 38 Tournament Edition. Just to let you know, Fountain was invited to bring a center-console boat to our roundup but they opted not to. We would love to test the boat but we can’t test private party boats. The manufacturer has to provide us the boat for testing.
Enjoy the boat, it looks like quite a ride.

To who whom this may concern,
I saw in your latest issue that you had a test on 3 center console performance fishing boats. I feel you left out a very big competitor in this test. I own a 2009 Fountain 38 Tournament Edition center console boat with quad 350 Verados that will out perform all the boats in that test.
I would like to offer my boat for a test by your magazine. It is the only quad 350 Verado boat build to date. I am sure I could get Fountain to help with the test.
Sincerely,
Scott

Ok two threads, same topic.
I posted this on the other one.
Magazines are not paid to have boats tested. Every year "manufacturers" are invited to participate either in the form of a group round up or on an individual test. That said the major advertisers are considered first and then non-advertisers. Powerboat for example sends a full team to a location with test drivers, writers, photographers, support staff and a model or two. Fountain could have opted to send Homesites boat to the test last May but for whatever reason chose not to. Since most of our boats are built to order we typically use a customer boat and Fountain could have done the same.
If all it took was writing a letter to the editor the magazines would be inundated by every boat owner with a hot boat.
If Homesite wants to have his boat tested I'm sure it could be done but it would have to go through Fountain.

There is your answer: 38 Fountain w/Quad 350 VRods = 84 MPH.
If Homey's boat was breaking 90 do you really think you'd have to ask him what his WOT speed was?
The 38 probably performs better with the lighter Optis which improves it's running attitude.
So a Quad 350V DI runs a Verified 83mph at 6000rpm with 420g of fuel...and homey's home, (the only quad 350 Fountain) runs a Claimed 83mph at 6100rpm and more than likely light on fuel, and probably has a Factory Performance report in Optimal conditions that he will not post......
Homesite's boat is indeed a 90mph boat, it just goes faster when someone else drives it. The reason for this is Scott's ego has increased the size of his head to 10x's its normal size, and the wind resistance at anything over 80 mph is just too much for 1400hp to overcome.
Look out for those "stockers", especially in the granola aisle with all the fruits and nuts.
after watching the grove slam video again, the quad 350 fountain certainly pulls away from the pack early, but doesnt appear to increase its lead over the others once under way. are you sure the top end is that much faster than everyone else???
Someone asked earlier, so here is my performance report. The report in an average of a 2-way run, they always round the top speed down on the reports. Top speed is 85 mph, air temp 60 degrees, water slick, 2mph wind, 200 gallons fuel, labbed 28" and 30" Bravos. My hull # is 8K017 if anyone wants to check at their Fountain dealer, its a 2007 model
I am just going to stick to the thread I started which has, as usual, morphed into a discussion about one persons boat even though that person emailed me asking me to engage him in the other threads...
Fountains performance reports are a nice piece of information to have. I can go back and see exactly how the boat performed, what the water pressure was, and provide this information to a prospective buyer. When I bought my boat, I contacted Fountain to transfer the warranty. They sent me a warranty packet that contained the performance report for my hull number as part of that packet. Anyone who owns a Fountain only has to pick up the phone and they will email, fax, or mail the report to them. If you do a Google search for "Fountain Performance Report" you will see hundreds of hits for owners who received this because everyone gets one.
Mine says 52mph which I have never achieved (but close) but my top is much larger than it was when the boat was built and I have never run the boat stripped down in 40 degree weather (thankfully).
You can see at the very top and bottom of the report that this was copied from their database on 5/10/07 a 9:19 at Fountain Powerboats. This was shortly after I bought the boat.

Well, I am new to this discussion and I have never run a fountain or ridden in a boat with quads but I’ll throw my expert options in to this “discussion”
I think there are 3 possible scenarios here:
Top Gear phenomenon: If you ever watch the show they test the heck out of hyper cars. Stuff an ordinary owner would never have the sack to try. Flat out in a Bugatti Veyron 16.4L, hard core racing a Ferrari FXX and running a Koenigsegg so hard the aerodynamics fail and the car goes off the track and crashes a million dollar car. They put a pro driver “The Stig” AKA (Michael Schumacher) behind the wheel to get the best possible performance out of these cars possible.
Theory #1 on this one is Homesite is a normal dude without 20 years of race boat experience, the reflexes of an Olympic athlete and a complete lack of fear to squeeze every drop of speed out of his rig and he would rather have the mystery out there than a slow run.
Theory #2 Based on getting passed by a Quad 350hp engine Yellowfin 42’ (I think) as speed increases the hull is lifting the stern out of the water and he is losing water pressure in the outside motors. When this Yellowfin went by it sounded like the outside motors were running dry exhaust and looked like they were fire hoses just squirting water at the wake. The fix is a combo of longer shafts and jack plates to keep the pressure up at high speed but they look goofy and therefore won’t go on the boat.
Theory #3 This is not his boat. If you notice the picture looks like it was taken from his neighbors dock. Or it is the same story as that guy who is mad about the quality of his dad’s boat.
My money is on a combo or #1 and #2
Again, I have no expertise on this subject, and that makes me perfectly qualified to comment on this issue.
